our local/only Harley dealer has the friendliest and most personable sales people. that's the big difference I noticed between them and all other brand dealers. So I can see how they suck people in.
to me, their bikes all look the same, but I guess that would be true of any bike that is the majority on the road.
HD gives me the impression that, for them, reliability isn't a high priority.

I wouldn't assume most HD riders are rich - but I would assume many of them are financing their bikes and paying dearly for it in terms of usurious interest rates.
I live in downtown Toronto and see a lot of nice cars daily....BMWs, Mercedes, etc...and every time I do I think to myself "wonder how much they're paying monthly for that?"
I used to be a financial advisor - you would be surprised how many people appear to have money (fancy houses, fancy cars, fancy clothes, go out to fancy restaurants a few times a week) and are literally a paycheck or two from being broke - they spend every dime they earn just to maintain an image.
Yup, that's very common around here, we call them the $30 thousand dollar millionaires...

Definitely not a priority for my neighbor down the street... bought a brand new road king and the thing has never left his living room to my knowledge.

You hit the nail on the head. This is a huge problem in the states. People financing their way to happiness and being 1 paycheck away from being broke. I have close to 20k in my toys (bikes) and my rule is you don't finance toys. If you can buy it with cash then buy it. If you can't, then dont.

You are a wise man. It's a shame so many people are financially irreponsible, because those of us that aren't and who work hard and pay a lot of taxes end up having to bail them out. When you get to the point that 50% of your income is going to taxes you start to wonder why you're even working.

If you combine all the metric cruisers and tourers sold today, do they equal Harley?
The laws of probability gotta figure into it.
Makes sense. The only guy in my group that has a Harley bought it new last year. He is on his second seat, 3rd radio, and has at least 2 recalls on it already. His bike spent more time in the shop than on the road last year. It was all covered under warranty, but still...
