So, heading out with my family to the zoo on Wednesday morning. On the way down there there was a bit of road rage happening. I was changing lanes, completely legally and using my turning signals. This prick decided to speed up and close the gap I was aiming for, and then he starts honking and the gestures come out. I'm trying to keep my cool, got my kids in the back seat so I was trying to be the better man. So we continued in the same direction until next intersection, and you can see in the video, the dude opened his door as if he wanted to have a "chat". Still, I'm staying calm and letting him blow off steam and finally he gets on his way. At least that's what I thought. We go down the road and turn into opposite directions. I stop at a stop sign and see a car coming past me and cuts me off at a stop sign, he stops there and partially in the lane of the oncoming traffic. So now the whole road is blocked. I tell my lady to pull out her phone and start recording, this might get interesting. The guy gets out and starts yelling and screaming at me outside my window. I had my doors locked(automatic function when driving) and windows up, we have a heat wave here and AC was blasting full. I was hoping he'd cool down and let him yell for a couple of minutes. Then I hear my daughter from the back seat saying "daddy I'm scared". That was it for me. I opened up the door pretty hard, the guy goes stumbling backwards straight into the ditch and rolls down into the brushes. This was a narrow country road and the ditches are pretty steep. My younger son(16) is now out of the car and wonders what's happening, he had as usually been sitting with his iPhone and ear buds and hadn't noticed anything. I took a look down in the ditch, the guy was climbing up and was all scratched up and looked like he was done. I figured I'll just get back on the road, there were a few cars that were honking and I needed to get out of the way. Turned around to get back in the car as I hear by son yell out "dad watch out". I duck and turn around at the same time, just in time to see the guy go down like a ton of bricks. My son, who recently got his black belt in karate, took the guy down with a single kick. Clearly it hit the guy in the face because he was out cold, and he was bleeding out of his nose and mouth. My kid had noticed that the guy was coming out of the ditch with a large stick and going after me as I was walking away. The first cruiser arrived a minute later. And then the fire truck, I guess someone had called them and reported a car accident. The cops wanted to arrest me but my lady got it all on video and once I showed it to the cops they took the hand cuffs off me and took the other guy in custody. He was still being taken care of by the paramedic fire fighters. Once the cops saw what had happened the tone changed completely, they took my statement and info and asked me to drop by with the wifey to provide her statement. There were also a few witnesses that saw the whole thing. Of course the cops took the memory card off the phone and my dashcam, I just asked them to return them to me without deleting anything off it. I got the dashcam memory card back yesterday with almost everything deleted. The video here are pieces of what was left. They said they will not give the video back to me in case potential witnesses might see it prior to their testimony. After the entire event we continued to the zoo, and my son got everything he wanted from a very proud dad.

Its amazing that people have to start shit like that for no reason. Glad you and your family are ok and glad you had a black belt with you. I'm not that talented so that's what the pistol is for. That's the funny thing with the pistol, I avoid confrontation at all cost. I would have no problem using it but would rather not have to deal with everything else that comes with it. You made every attempt to avoid confrontation but he gave you no choice, he is lucky he just got knocked out and arrested.

I thought all Canadian were overly friendly and polite. Glad none of you were hurt, and good for your kid. All his hard work to get the black belt, and you paying for classes was worth it.

So if the police kept your video footage and they're talking about witnesses and testimony, does that mean there's potential legal action happening?

I'm a little sheltered here in Montana. We never see drivers like that. Like that one silver car that was behind you that took a right on red from the left turn only lane? Nuts.

Good job. Reminds me of the time I was at a red light in my pickup with a "no turn on red sign" and a cop stopped across the street. Some idiot behind me wants me to turn right in front of the cop. He starts honking, giving me the finger and shouting out his window. The next thing I know bullets start coming through my back window.

I hit the gas and go towards the cop. The blues come on, I stop and tell the cop I was being shot at by the guy now going down the road in the grey car. The cop gets out of his car. As I open my door the cop pulls me out, slams me into the street and cuffs me. I keep trying to tell him he needs to go get that guy but he now has his boot on my back calling for backup.

When the other cops get there they see bullet holes in my back window and windshield and start asking questions. By the time it's all over the guy got away and I was released but what a bunch of BS. It's getting crazy out there with a lot of angry people.

I really have to thank my kid for his action. His biggest concern afterwards was what his sensei would think of it. They have been taught that they cannot practice karate outside the dojo. But self defense is a completely different story.

The detective handling the case told me when I picked up the memory card that there will certainly be a court case out of this. But he also said that neither me or my son have nothing to worry about. The guy provoked me and also attacked me with a potential "lethal weapon"(the stick). He also said that they have a very good witness from one of the vehicles behind me.

That's why I carry and watch my 6. If the guy would have went in the ditch after I opened the door either me or if I wasn't alone then the other person would have been on the phone and if he came at me with a large stick I'd double tap cause that is basically saying you are intending to seriously hurt or kill the individual with the stick your carrying. But technically when you opened the door YOU became the aggressor and YOU could actually be arrested if you live in a place that has duty to retreat law.

About two years ago, I'm on the freeway with my daughter in the car trying to merge over to the car pool lane...traffic stops and I'm straddling the the white line dividing the lanes. Some asshole on a sport bike comes up splitting lanes and stops right behind me because I'm blocking him from splitting the lane... literally he goes banana's reving his engine at 10k rpm screaming through a full face helmet (he's got major anger issues/screws loose), I look in the rear view mirror and throw my hands up in the air, like what am I supposed to do ram all the cars out of the way to clear the way for him? My daughter looks at me and says what a jack ass. So traffic starts moving again and I move into the lane and he can go on his way, OH NO, the asshole comes along side my car and starts pounding his fist on my driver side window denting my the side pillar and pounding my window glass so hard I'm expecting it to break and he's staying right on the side of my window and continues going nuts screaming through his helmet and starts to come closer again.....this guy is not right mentally, so I swerve my car gently toward him about a foot to let him know if he continues he's going to get the worst of his tyraid. Then he shits himself like how dare you swerve your car at me and tries to kick the car....finally his brain turns on and he comes to his senses and he drives off flipping me off. So I call the California Highway Patrol and they take major issue with me swerving the car at the motor cycle while he's pounding on my window, saying oh you are threatening him with a deadly weapon. WTF....what else am I supposed to do when the guy is pounding his fist on my window with my face a foot away? So I told the cop where it happened and just said this guy will continue his rage and don't be surprised if someone shoots him or runs him over. Seriously, I've been riding motorcycles for 40+ years and respect everyone on two wheels and move over to give them room for guys splitting lanes if I see them coming, but this guy deserves what someone gives him and someday it will be far worse than what I did.
