1600/1700 Compatiblity - Rectifier Cover 3 Years, 8 Months ago
I am SO sick of finding the differences between 1600s and 1700s.

I spent 30 bucks in shipping, plus parts, trying to get the right connectors for the PNP tail lights, before I figured the 1600's and 1700's were different.

Then I spent a weekend polishing front disc covers from a 1600, before finding out the floating rotor on the 1700s won't let you use them.

From now on, I'm not even going to buy wax was until I know that it will work for a 1700.

So, the rectifier cover below, for some reason it states that it is for the 1600, but will not fit the 1700. Does anyone know for sure?

Definately for a 1600. Shores modified his rectifier mount to make one fit his 1700. Not sure what all was involved.

The problem is that the rectifier is too far forward for this chrome cover to look good. So I removed the rectifier from its bracket and then made another bracket that lowered the rectifier below the stock bracket and rearward. I attached the new bracket to the mounts that used to hold the AIS. This put the rectifier directly below its stock bracket and rearward enough so that when I mounted the chrome cover to the original rectifier bracket, it was flush between the two frame down tubes. I think I used 5/8" spacers on the stock rectifier studs to attach the chrome cover. If you don't want to do that then here is the one that will fit, but it's smaller:

I like the bigger one, but again, just once I would like to know the feeling of something fitting like I expect.

The dealer has those smaller ones for half that price. (It seems like they are dumping a lot of the Roadstar stuff...)

Thanks

I just bought the bigger one like you first posted. It will not fit with cobra engine guards even on a 1600 without having to add more spacers over the Rectifier. Jury is still out if I do that or not. I have this one on my bike now, and if what I really bought for a future upgrade is a 1700 rectifier, it will work on both the 1600 and 1700. (it is the one on the left. Kuryakyn Regulator Cover 1549)

I am kind of looking for one of the smaller ones that is mentioned above. Do you have an idea for sure of what your dealer was asking? I do not want to pay eBay prices if i can help it. . .
