Common failure. Did that to mine before I went pumpless.

I’m sure I’ll go pumpless once I have a fuel pump fail what did you use to cover that area or clean it up since the fuel filter and choke bracket are all there

The problem with a pump fail is you are gonna be out on the road, and that's gonna Eff up a ride.
It really is painless to do, and the motor looks a lot mo' bettah' without that ugly ass cover there

Not to mention you are losing 10 pounds of weight off the left side of your bike and allowing more wind in to cool the cylinders.

I laugh everytime I hear you guys talk about pump failure. It is not at all a common failure. The pumpless mod become popular because it was an cover up fix for carb puke instead of just adjusting the float and/or replacing the needle seat or Oring. Not many want to talk about some of the horrors that they and you may or may not run into before you get the pumpless mod to work correctly. Things like tank venting, running out of fuel and having to switch to reserve at about 1/4 tank and possibly float adjustments. Some members just remove the pump and not even change the needle/seat and are fine. Then after all the horror stories and problems members have had they say how great of a mod it is when they weren't having a problem to start with. Very few members have had a pump failure of any sort other than maybe the clips on the cover breaking like yours did. Look up pumpless mod and when you see endless pages on the subject they are there because of issues members had performing the mod and not because of pump failure. As far as loosing 10 lbs off the side of the bike Some people weigh 300 lbs and some weigh 120 lbs so there are many ways to lighten the bike so you could just loose some weight and do the same thing.

I remember years back a guy making fun of my sled for having an electric start and reverse. Talked about the weight of the battery and starter, and even got in to the weight of the additional reverse gear - explaining how it was hurting my performance.
As he sat there in size 3xxx snow bibs that he still couldn't zip over his belly...
