Transfer case differences 10 Months, 1 Week ago
I see the transfer case part numbers are different from the 1700 to the 1600, does anyone know if a 1600 t/c will bolt up and work properly on a 1700? They have some parts in common according to the parts schematic. Thanks in advance!

Ok, I guess I'm going to find this out for myself. I bought a 2004 with a stripped front pulley and shaft and found a good deal on a low mileage 2002 complete transfer case. According to the parts schematic the shaft is at least the same. So I may be swapping the shafts or complete cases depending on what it looks like. I was hoping someone here already came across this. I'll post my results.

To the best of my knowledge, they should be the same through 05. In 06 they changed the shaft and put the different nut on it. I have put the 2 side by side and there are differences in the shafts. Also compared an 02 to an 05 and the shafts are the same. Did not see any differences in the cases, but wasnt really looking. Hope this helps a little.

Great thanks, I couldn't remember when they changed the nut and honestly didn't know if it was just a different nut on the same shaft. I have had good luck and never had a stripped shaft so far. Thanks for the info!!!!!!
