I prefer a carbed bike and the logic is flawed 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago
For me, as unlogical as it sounds, I prefer a carburated bike. The bike takes longer to heat up, humidity and temperature effects it. They can leak, and requires tinkering when adding air filters and exhaust to a bike. They puke, and can be a real pain at times.
Fuel injection on a bike is what I consider a good to go improvement over a carburated bike. So why do I prefer a carbed bike?
It is like owning a fountain pen versus a ball point pen. A fountain pen has a lot more personality though requires more maintenance. I use fountain pens to make out my invoices. They can be messy, write differently when temperatures change, and not as practical as a ball point pen.

Bottom line: It's retro, old school and fun to tinker with. My 2003 108 Big Bore sometimes backfires when starting. I love that kind of stuff. As goofy as it seems, reminds me of the old hot rods of yester year when back yard mechanics were found in most... back yards. Elvis, rock and roll, golly gee, gosh darn, yes sir along with please and thank you.

This could be my flawed thinking, but a carbed bike sounds better than a fuel injected bike. Because fuel injection is a more precise fuel delivery technology verses the old carb, the inaccuracy of the carb equals an interesting idle. A dual pin crank bike motor that is fuel injected is very linear sounding. A single pin crank bike motor with carb, is "interesting" to listen to. more so if cams are added to the mix.

Just some random thoughts on a Saturday night.

Now with that being said, if I ever attain a Valkyrie or Gold Wing 6 cylinder bike, I would insist on a fuel injected motor. But for a V twin, a single carb is like Apple pie with ice cream.

Actually if you know what you are doing you can fine tune a carb to a better degree than FI

But, a single pin, v-twin, fuelie sounds pretty damn good.

And now, for something completely different.

LOL! Hey Shores, I played that cover tune in a band reunion gig in 2012. The place was jammed and lined up at the door. The older I get the more into retro stuff I appreciate. I do dig the new LED flashlights along with the Samsung Note 4 phone.

Some things will never change like baseball and hot dogs.

I have a Road Star, a Fat Boy, A new VW Beetle, and a PT cruiser. I think I might be into this retro thing.

I'll take a carbed bike every time! I like being able to remove the tank quickly and easily.

I'm not likely to ever get a liquid-cooled bike either... I'm just an old faht who likes things simple and easy.

I think the dependability of fuel injection is a big plus, for a majority of those who ride.
Either the Fuelies don't air their dirty laundry here on the Forum, or they are extremely reliable as sold. I think we've only seen a couple of issues, when they're left well enough alone. It's when people start "tweaking" them with aftermarket magic beans, that the problems start.
I like the simplicity of a carbed bike. If you take just a few steps to preserve the integrity of the system, basically something like Seafoam, MMO, or Techron in the fuel every other tank or so, and put the bike away with fresh fuel treated with Stabil when it's shut down for extended periods, carbed works good.
I like having the 5k(4750 with the stock ECU's)rev option, with the carbed bikes.

FI over Carb every time. IF you have the right software and access to the controller, your options are much better. The "self adjusting" features are very good.
If you don't have the ability to adjust the computer, the Carb will be easier to adjust.

Read through the posts with carb issues and you can see a pattern "Jetting, enricher, needle, accel-pump, air-cleaner, exhaust, etc." The vast majority of this is automatically compensated for on an FI system. The FI is also not as much of an issue with variable fuel quality, air temp, or altitude.

If I could have gotten an FI bike for anything close to the cost of my bike, I would have jumped on it.
