Can I pull clutch cover without draining oil? 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I've got a brand new batch of Mobil 1 V-Twin in the bike and it looks like I need to replace the shift shaft bearing and seal. Can I lean the bike to the right and pull the cover without draining the oil? Or am I going to have to drain it and reuse it?

seems like I remember someone removing the seal from the top without removing the cover. Maybe someone who knows will chime in.

If I remember correctly you will lose some oil.

Would not surprise me one bit, if you could lean it over on it's right, and no oil would be lost taking the cover off.

Anyone know for certain?

I believe you're right Questcap... but it's awkward to lean the bike to the right side. I always pull the drain plug lifting the bike from under the center, evenly. I believe it will leak if leaning on the kick stand.

I seem to remember that someone laid theirs over on a pile of old mattresses. I'm not sure about that though

Yes , I leaned my bike over and propped it using the handlebars onto workbench , and used old seat foam cushions between bench and bike for extra protection. Used this method to replace clutch spring without draining oil . Have a new case gasket ready before you start !
