Plug reading is not the same anymore since the ethanol has been added to the gasoline.
I talked to Dynojet technicians about it.

You might want to call them and find out the latest info on plug readings.

When I bought a Dynojet kit I did get a new pilot jet.
I installed the jets they gave me and followed the instructions
they gave me according to the way my bike was set up, and it runs perfect.

Not gonna get into a debate about the intricacies of plug reading. But the "general" reading of rich to lean is the same regardless of the gas. If you have a white plug you are lean and a black plug you are rich. Grey to tan is where you want to be. That is a general statement and would not be a good way of doing things on a race car but for our purposes it works fine.

When you talked to Dynojet did you think to ask how their pilot jet size compares to Mikuni size? That has always been in question around here due to the number sizing of the main jets. If you have the Customer service ph # pm it to me if you would.

I just called the Dynojet main number and asked for tech advice.
No special phone number.

Although the plugs might not be as reliable an indicator on modern vehicles with "full" fuel control, we are still dealing with the magic of carburetor tuning here. The specific caloric output of the fuel should be constant, as in, if you tune for E-10, it might not be exactly the same for pure fuel, but she'll still be as close as you are going to get with a carb. You are still looking for the same thing, no ash, no soot. The automotive plug reading guides are no different with unleaded fuels than what they are for aviation low lead fuels, other than lead deposits being common for engines running too cold or rich.

Re:Plug reading question 2 Years, 8 Months ago
I just called Dynojet and the guy in jetting tech support told me they only offer a size "37" pilot jet for our bikes. So I guess there is no fine tuning using there product unless you mix and match with Mikuni jets. He said that the 37 pilot they put in the kit is equal to a 35 Mikuni. He also said that the list we use for cross referencing Dynojet to Mikuni sizes is a bogus list. He says it list sizes of jets that they don't even make. I hated to tell him that for being a bogus list it has worked pretty good so far and if someone tries to order one that they have never or no longer sell, they order a Mikuni equivalent instead... But I did.
