Just to sum it up 2 Years, 4 Months ago
Hi all,

Just want to sum up what I understood from reading about jetting.
If I install aftermarket pipes and open air filter line kn 1980, I should:
Get barons jet kit plus 37.5 pilot.
Main should be 172.5 and 4 clip on the needle with spacer and washer.
Get barons pms screw for ease of adjustment and start with 2 turns out.

I have a 2005 R*
Thank you

You got it 100% right and if you bike runs good now don't even think about touching or checking the float level. Act as if it isn't even there except being careful not to bump it throwing it out of adjustment. Take the bowl off the carb change 2 jets and put the bowl back on immediately. That is where most mess up the carb, they feel a need to check and adjust the float when it hasn't been an issue.

That should have you right in the sweet spot sir. My only suggestion would be to port the manifold while you are at it, if it's not already, or get one from Curt. The ones from Barons are not as open as they can be.

Dave, if I may ask, why a 37.5 pilot and not a 40 or his 1700 like you did on mine?

Thanks Penguin
Good catch!!!! I guess I was reading a few post this morning and must have got his confused with someone else's 1999. You are correct he should get a #40 pilot.

Correction to my previous post:

To Alexd install a #40 pilot instead of a 37.5 as I stated above in my other post. A 37.5 is the pilot needed for a 1600. A 1700 will run better with a 40 pilot.

Everything came in. Cobra dragster pipes, K&N RC 1980 filter, Barons jet kit, Barons PMS screw and intake o-rings.
Pipes installed, carb jetted and filter installed. Didn't have to port the manifold, it was already ported. Starts, runs and nothing leaking so far. Couldn't ride, rain plus I got a cold. Hoping to ride Sunday. Thank you Dave, JD and Penguin for advice.
