Another no start thread yay 1 Year, 1 Month ago
I would like to ask the gurus about upgraded starter cables.. my bike currently won't start, won't crank at all... removed starter and bench tested. Won't crank on bench either... I know I need a starter or a rebuild. Would you recomend the warrior starter or stock or just rebuild original starter?? What info do you have for warrior starter so my shop can start locating the correct one for me.

My next question is about the cables,,, are they really needed? I am not sure if I will be riding this bike next year or getting another road star so I am trying to get it running cheap as possible. It will never sell if it don't start right...

My final question is about the pumpless mod,,, I love the not breaking down aspect when pump fails.... could you add a link for me to find the required parts,, anybody near Toronto good with these carbs in case I need some pointers? Please note I'm in Canada so if you have Canadian vendors I would greatly appreciate this...

Sorry forgot I had one more question... how the hell does timb know so much about these machines? Work at a bike shop or something? Just wondering. Thx again for all your help. Looking forward to breakfast with the locals next riding season. i would like to add a smiley to show your guys I'm learning

I sell the cables so when you are ready for a set let me know. They are $45 a set shipped in the U.S. I will ship to Canada but there will be a little extra to cover shipping. When you get the rest of the starting problem corrected the new cables will help to assure that all amperage required to start the bike is available at the starter. The larger the cable gauge the easier the amperage flows. The OEM cables are 6 gauge cables and the cables I make are a larger 4 gauge. That along with the fact that your cables are 14yrs old there may be added resistance due to age.

Tim has run a business called MetricMagic for years. He specialized in 1100's, and also stocks many OEM parts for Roadies. He not only sells the stuff, but does enough wrenching to know what people will need, when they contact him for parts.
I'm probably over simplifying his business here. He has done a lot of fab work for prfeormance parts for the 1100's.

If you don't have links for pumpless by this evening, I'll post a couple when I get home.

thx fellas, no rush. Bike is parked with snow on the ground. I figure I will begin the rebuild in feb to be ready for spring. Just gotta decide if I work on this bike or get another. If I got a newer injected roadie will my tins fit? I do like the custom paint,, just would prefer injected and would swap out my apes for slightly lower and add some baffles to my pipes. I do really like my current bike but get so dissapointed when I got on all my gear and the damn thing won't start.

I bought one of those slutty chrome aftermarket starters off of eBay, and have been happy with it.
(They later started calling their stock starters High Output though. Same physical size, same current draw, but magically H.O.s)

I bought to put on while taking fixing my OEM one, although with downtime you have you could start with your OEM work.

Most likely your Brush Set inside of the starter has gone bad. Very easy fix, parts are about 60 bucks.
