What's "waver wear on outside tread" mean?

Re:C2 Front tire 7 Months ago
Not sure but I think horsehammer may be talking about this example. I get this sort of waver but less bumpy more of a flaring of the individual sections - often on the front tire and I do a lot of tight curvy roads which may or may not be a factor. I'm sure must be a combination of factors, but none of my bikes had bad wheel bearings.. although that is a good line of reasoning. I've seen it on any point of the radius of the tire just depends. but on what?? I'm curious too. Anybody know?

Mine do that on the front. I just reverse the wheel/tire so the whole thing is rotating the opposite way. The sheared lips get worn the opposite so it levels out.

Horsehammerr is this the sort of cupping or scalloping you are referring to?.. only maybe not as bad?

I didn't know you could run the direction reversed. Did you notice any handling or gripping issues after reversing it? They're designed for best performance running as arrowed obviously. As far as what causes the "cupping or scaloping" I did some research and it's actually a normal phenomenon for motorcycle tires from the leading edges of the tread sections wearing faster than the trailing edges. That's how the cupping forms and then it just compounds over the miles and snowballs. The amount of cupping depends on stuff like tire compound, braking habits, shape of the tread sections etc etc. ... and is worse with some brands than others. Out on other forums you will find people specifying certain tire brands and series of tires that seem to do it badly and to stay away from, in their opinion.

It's so easy to just pop the front wheel off and turn it around and back on again. There seems to be no difference in handling as I can tell. There is a continuance of the bip-bip-bip sensation you get on smoother pavement when tires are cupping, but that diminishes as the cups get worn back down. I used to think it was my bearings, but then I realize not.

As to running in the direction of the arrows (front or rear), some riders have said they can tell and performance differs. For me, I can't tell any difference. And it isn't that I don't corner hard. I have to hold myself back from cornering so I drag floorboard all the time. The tires never are a limiting factor. I will admit I have not ridden in much rain at all, so I can't comment on rain traction on any tire.

I ride only R*s, I have two and go between 15-20,000 miles per year total.
