Can you soak the discs for to long? I put them in a ziplock bag with fresh bike oil today at lunch. Thanks for all your replys, gasket won't be a big deal at work with die grinder. And may come off clean because recall was done.

Nope you can't soak them to long. They will spend the rest of their life in oil. If you don't have them well impregnated with oil when you install them you could destroy them the first time you use the clutch. They are obviously intended to be wet for use.

I better leave that alone.

Re:I NEED a clutch spring... 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Well it wasn't to bad, my back hurts from bending over the whole time. Gasket required die grinder to clean off, I was hoping it wouldn't due to recall but guess not... the screws for the kickstand switch wouldn't go back in so I zip tied on for now,, will retap the threads from the bottom and replace screws later. My oil drain plug was rounded off so bad I could not get it to move, extractor wouldn't fit between drain plug and frame. Couldn't hold it with vise grips, I think I will grind my extracter shorter just to crack it loose next time. I just drained the oil tank and dumped the oil out the clutch housing when off. Clutch lever now has free play which I couldn't get with old clutch. I used the thicker ebc spring. I also pulled the front pulley cover and bent the tab over my nut. And lastly a note to anyone replacing clutch in the future: I did not use the special tool that I bought so I'm pretty sure it is not required when replacing clutch, or I did something wrong.

So here are my new questions.......

I lined up the notches in the friction plate ears but does it matter what slot of the basket they go in?The shifter arm on tranny and on shifter are not in same location. The pedals are in correct spot and I have all gears. Does this matter? Is there anything else I should watch for or be checking after replacing clutch? Bike currently sitting on cardboard to check for leaks, rode for about 30 min after servicing and before parking. Thank you everyone for all your help. Oh yeah it took me approx 3 hours.

I didn't clean up the surfaces as good as I had thought, I guess. It leaked... I had to take the clutch cover off again today, and REALLY clean them all well, which meant removing a few more items to get to every bit of it.

The new gasket was destroyed in the process, but I had RTV Black gasket maker, and went without. It seemed to have buttoned back up real good this time.

I was reminded of that old Army saying... You never have enough time to do it right the first time, but you always have time to do it a second time!

Did you remove the gasket and just use silicone this time? I have a 2" spot of oil under the bike this morning. I'm hoping it was spillage. I'm gonna brake cleaner the motor and frame off and recheck for drips tomorrow. If still present I guess she will come back apart on Saturday to reseal.

When I did mine, I managed to gouge the case, so I ended up using two gaskets and a healthy amount of sealant. As a result I had no leaks. Point being, don't be afraid to use sealant; and if all else fails, you can double up on the gaskets. ...Side note: Did you tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern? Before tearing it all apart again, it couldn't hurt to recheck all the bolts. And obviously don't over tighten, because the case is aluminum, and you *really* don't want to strip it.

Best of luck.

Tightened up the bolts, cleaned off oil. Will check for spots in the morning. The drips were pretty dark so it may be old oil that was coming from the wire loom or somewhere from spilling when opening case.
