The new guy 1 Year, 1 Month ago
Howdy, my name is Dave and I'm the proud owner of a used 2002 Yamaha midnight star, I live near toronto Canada and my bike is parked for winter disassembly. This is my first bike and I love it, got to ride for about a month before winter happened here. bike currently has custom paint work done, ape hangers (not sure how tall but they are about twice as high as I would like). Vance and Hines long shots with knn air filter, pipes are to loud so I plan on addressing that once the bike is reliable. Honestly I would have built this exact bike, I thought I liked everything the previous owner did. But after riding for over 3 hours my arms got tired, under 3 hours she's great. I got my bike licence and got this bike the next day, the bike currently won't start cuz I tried it Christmas Day and won't even turn over. I will be removing the starter for a rebuild as my first repair... if she runs then we will perform all maintenance and be ready to ride in spring.... but there is a possibility I may get a newer bike instead of working on this one,, it has 100k and it was ridden hard I'm sure. Previous owner was also a mechanic so it may be well maintained? I am a auto mechanic myself so I'm not afraid to dig into it and find out.. thanks for letting me in, I have been lurking since the day I got the bike....haha,,,

I installed the windshield and bags about halfway through my month of riding and the bags are a must for me, but I hope to swap my leather bags for hard bags, also th windshield makes riding so much nicer over 70kph that I would like to install a batwing. I don't like the look of the big stock windshield. In my opinion as a non motorcycle guy if it didn't say Yamaha in 2 places on the engine I would think this bike is a Harley.... I started by wanting a brand new Harley street glide special and then found this bike used... I have read so many bad reviews about Harley's I am very happy with my purchase. And to be honest I would just like this bike fuel injected with the street glide special look and I don't need the Harley name at all..

Dave From South Florida. I too don't care for ape hanger bars, just not my thing. Stock bars with a 3-4 inch riser and good to go. I'm sure you could sell the apes to someone here. Just a thought. Good luck with the bike, I think you will love it, and this is the right place for any help you may need.

100k kilometers or 100k miles? either way there is still a lot of life left in it. Have the battery load tested before you pull the starter. I ride with wild 1 roadking 2 handlebars. Big city thunder monster baffles will quiet your pipes down without taking away the rumble

Also check the decompression solenoid

Almost 100000km on the speedo. I thought that was a lot for a bike? I will look into those baffles thank you...
