How to Remove and Lower the Rear Fender 13 Years ago
This thread discusses the Content article: How to Remove and Lower the Rear Fender

I'm wondering if you've had any problems with the fender rubbing the tire. How do you think this compares with actually lowering the suspension?

single---

I am not running the fender lowered anymore on mine. I changed seats to a corbin stinger and with the fender lowered the one-piece seat wouldnt fit right, so I put it back up to stock and put a lowering kit on. I had zero problems with the fender lowered,no tire rub or anything, and you can achieve almost the same look as a lowering kit with it, without the worrys of dragging pipes etc. Best thing is its free to do........and reversible if ya decide to go back to stock, simply by welding a spacer on the subframe stub.

Could place washers where the fender was ground to raise it back to stock position. But how does it look with the passenger seat in place, is the seat tilted back?

Post edited by: draco, at: 2005/02/08 17:01

Washers would work fine to raise the fender back up, can be fun getting everything to sit still while ya put the bolt in, but i used washers at first on mine to go back up. The seat is lowereed a bit, but you dont notice it when looking. You really arent moving the fender that much, it just looks like you are.....

I did this mod this weekend and had no problems with it. I don't like how the front of the fender is high and the rear is lowered! I think I'm going to fabricate some brackets to lower the front of the rear fender. I'm not sure how that would look though! Overall, I am pleased with a no cost mod, and a little more time to get to know my roadie! Thnx to all who keep this site going...it's a life saver!

I realize that this is an old thread but the tech article directed me here to ask my questions about lowering the rear fender.

Anyone here who has done this, does the lowering of the rear fender have a negative effect on the rear seat(ie appearance or mounting)? Can this mod be done if I have already done the flip and grind?

Thanks

Think if you have lover the rear end then if you lower the rear fender you going to have lot of rubbing trouble. And two up will be almost imposable. I lower my rear fender by attaching it to the swing arm that way it stays the same distance from the tire all the time and follows it up and down. The problem with that is you can't take a passenger with you because of support issues.

thanks Curt, I'll skip it, I ride 2-up pretty regular. I was just attracted to the idea of bringing the tail of the fender towards the wheel a touch.
