I used 1/2 in nylon spacers and it does require longer bolts and more washers as i said. But please don't hack into the chrome. It's a bolt on. And a Nylon spacer thwarts vibration. Mental, not so much. You can use chrome tape to make the spacer chrome looking. No one will know.

How well do they work in deflecting the air?

Mine were a bolt on as well. I used some black spacers that I found in the plumbing dept. of H-D (Home Depot ) They deflect the air reasonably well. I'd be happier if they moved it away from my legs better but they do an OK job at that. They do stop dead air from coming over the tank which was my main concern anyway. The big upside to them is that they allow the use of the Yami big bar engine gaurds and don't hit or bind on them. And they are WAYYYY cheaper than the Star parts.

Hey Doc.....they work great in deflecting air. I had them on plus a windshield on a recent trip and they knock out like 90% of the airflow. I could have lit a cigarette on the highway if I felt like it.

The only vibration I ran into was between the light bar and the bar the windshield mounts to. Stuck a wad of duct tape between the two and all was well. This only happened on the left side.

I even tried mounting the lowers without a windshield and it worked pretty good too. Knocked a lot of the wind up over my head. Not as good as using a windshield, but I was impressed how well that worked.

Regards....greeny

THANKS! I trimmed my OEM lowers...looks like a musical note, and vibrates at certain RPMs. Probably could have paid for the HD lowers selling the OEM's.

I just installed a set last weekend used the same metheod as MS-1700.
I had my windshield set at the highest position and took the bike out and all was fine they cut down on the buffeting OK, but there was a gap between the bottom of the windshield and the top of the lower.

This looked kinda dumm to me so I went and dropped my windshield down to the bottom and closed the gap all looked much better took the bike back out and at 60 + mph the harmonics started from somewhere I can only assume from the new set-up ? I didn't have the noise when the w-shield was raised to the top.

Has anyone else had noise with HD-lowers at the high speeds ?

I just installed these lowers on my bike and I can't hear anything different at all. I did use rubber washers between the bike and the lowers to soften the connection, but I can't imagine that would cause (or prevent) any sort of noise.

So far I'm happy with the install since the wind up from the lower part of the bike is cut way back now. I don't particularly like the look of the lowers though. They seem like an afterthought design wise. But then I guess I should expect that since they were designed for an entirely different bike! I had to try 'em though. Got 'em on craigslist for $25 used.
