Carburetor connection question 7 Years, 11 Months ago
Alright what is missing in the picture?

I love my 2000 Roadstar and have never had a days problem with it, thats kinda why I bought it, I know they are dependable. I was about to get mine outta the garage and clean er up for her first outing of the spring. Turned the key on, heard the fuel pump and a second later smelled gas. The picture says it all really, what is missing that attaches to the nipple on the carb? There is absolutely nothing to attach to it. I almost think someone has removed a hose.[/img]

I think you're talking about the overflow tube. With the stock air box a hose runs from it to a empty box on the back of the air box. It doesn't do anything but drain the gas if the gas doesn't shut off to the bowl. You can put a hose on it and run it out somewhere but most of us leave it open with nothing on it. If you didn't turn off the gas and run the bowl dry when you parked it the float or float needle might be gummed up. Or it might just be stuck anyway. Give the float bowl a few whacks with a screwdriver handle and see if that pops it loose.

Thanks for the reply Musky. I worked through exactly what you posted. It only spewed gas the first time I started it and not since so hopefully it was just a stuck float/needle and it wont happen again. It seems a recipe for disaster, overflowing gasoline near exhaust pipes, so I hope it doesnt repeat.

Thanks again for taking the time to post.

Your welcome. Machines sometimes do things like that to us.

Especially after sitting over winter. Things get stiff and stuck.
