I have not had to the chance to get her up and running all the way but agree on the porting. Can not wait to see all the work Curt did on my manifold pay off in a little more ponies LOL! Thanks Curt even did it when he was all bummed up from his wreck .

If you have the capability, Port it yourself. It's not difficult. there are many articals on the subject. If you don't have the tallents, Have your local dealear run through it. I is worth it.

Dealer will just sell you Yami's ported manifold and it is over priced too. The is only one after market manifold that is taken down to the metal and have the corners rounded and they don't surface the flanges.

i shall call the dealer today and check if they can port it, if not i will be obliged to buy the after market one from Barons, a bit expensive tho. Any idea if the barons manifold will add more ponies to my R* without porting?

cheers

The Barons is a stock manifold (like the one on your bike now) that has been ported. But they don't take the porting as far as people who do it themselves. I would call it more just rounding off a couple corners inside. But it's still better than the way it comes from the factory with it's sharp corners.

The good thing about the stock manifolds is that they have metal inside them where it's needed(mounting flanges) but they aren't entirely metal(main body is just rubber) so they can flex and don't cause more vibration. They do get cracks but if they don't go all the way though it doesn't hurt anything. And if your concerned you can fix them like Curt said.

IMO porting the manifold helps tie the other mods together. When you put on pipes, an air kit, and jet the carb, porting is kind of the icing on the cake. It finishes the the job. I didn't notice a big jump in power though there was some. It was more that everything just worked better and ran smoother.

Re:Manifold 7 Years, 11 Months ago
good news, i came to know that an ex mechanic at the dealer has started his private business and shockingly he knows about porting, he offered to help with it. also he didnt advise changing the stock manifold and would help with some sort of glue that withstands high temp. as most of you recommended in here.

many thanks guys. you guys like crack,

cheers all

Good idea to lap the mating surfaces and go to over size O rings too.

part number on these over sized o'rings? i have had a small leak since last year, and vowed not to be lazy and fix lol. i was just gonna get some high temp RTV and run bead around flanged and reinstall. not sure if that would be a perm fix or not?

edit:
search does work sigh...
