Sounds like the float is stuck? forcing the gas to keep pumping out. my two cents

The float is stuck open, and the clicking is your fuel pump. Did you drain the tank, and use fresh fuel? If not, do that, and add about 8 ounces of Seafoam or Techron to the full tank. You can let the bike sit for a bit after getting the Seafoam treated fuel into the carb, and then try to tap on the side of the bowl with a screwdriver handle, and see if you can jar it loose. Don't get carried away, your not driving nails. If you can't get it jarred loose, you'll have to pull the carb and clean the carb, and free the needle and seat(float vale)up, so it will close when the bowl is filled.

I believe I ran it...
Either way I think cleaning it can't hurt!

I think I'd see if it'd tap loose first. Do the fuel swap, and get a good dose of the Seafoam or Techron into the carb even if it pukes out the bowl vent like it's doing. Let it sit for a bit so the seafoam can do it's thing, and then start tapping. The stuck needle and seat, is not an uncommon problem on bikes that have set a spell. If you had Stabil in the fuel when you tucked it away, you may get it to work without pulling the carb. Good luck.

By the way…Regardless if soaking with Seafoam works, or you have to take the carb apart, once you do get it started, run the bike for a while with the concentrated mixture. [half a can of Seafoam to a gallon of gas] This will help clean up the rest of the carb. If the float is stuck, then you're going to have gunk in the other jets. This is also good for your fuel pump and the rest of the fuel system. as well as the valves; getting rid of any build up and deposits which improves performance and prevents SVS.

The bike may run rough for a while and may even smoke some with the concentrated mixture; that's normal. I'd ride at least a good 10 -20 miles, making sure to get out on the freeway and *hold* the throttle wide open several times to insure all circuits [jets] are getting the Seafoam cleaning. You don't want to do the entire ride on the freeway though, you need a mix of riding conditions [I'd say half and half] to ensure all jets get plenty of use.

After that, fill the tank up and dump the rest of the Seafoam in and go ride. Make sure you use up the *entire* tank. [don't top off]

Also. alternate the petcock between the "ON" position and "RES". Each has a separate screen in the tank that can get clogged up. It's most common for the RES screen to clog, especially if you never let your bike get to RES.

After that I'd add a couple ounces of Seafoam to the next few full tanks and you should be good to go.

Long term, It's good practice to run an ounce or two of Seafoam, ever few fill ups, to keep everything clean.

Ok... So... I swapped gas... put in the seafoam... and got her to start!

But she won't run...

She chokes and pukes... and will only start if I turn the gas off..

I think you guys were right.. Float bowl stuck, and it's constantly getting flooded.

Methinks I'm going to have to pull the carb for a thorough cleaning etc... Which scares me to death because of all of the settings etc.. Having never touched one I have no idea what I am doing... Moreover, I have searched and have not been able to find a tech article on doing a carb cleaning?? Unless I'm missing something..,

It was so nice hearing her run if even for a few sec... now i've got the fever again!!

It's simple. Don't change the idle speed. Don't change the PMS setting. Only clean one jet or needle at a time so you don't get them mixed up. Take lots of pics of everything if you have a smart phone or digital camera that way you will have a visual reference of how it looked before you took it apart

Almost all of the tech articles show you how to work on your carb. You won't be adjusting anything, just taking it apart to clean it and put it back together one piece at a time

+1 Tug is right just clean don't adjust anything. Don't do anything to the float adjustment don't even be tempted to check it. If it was OK before it will be OK now. Just free up the needle/seat and leave the rest alone on the float. Also be careful not to loose the little Oring for the acc pump hole on the fuel bowl.

I'd hold off on taking it all apart if you've never even removed the tank…. I mean, it's doable, we've all been there, but if you've got it to run, even for a moment, I'd say, keep doing exactly what you did!

Each time it will work more crap out of the carb. They have lots of *tiny* passages that need to work themselves clean, and that's what the Seafoam is doing.

Just hook up the battery tender to keep the juice flowing and repeatedly do what you did. If it runs for a moment and then floods and *won't turn over at all*, let it sit for 30 mins then try again… Keep repeating this throughout the day and eventually it should get better. This is exactly what I was referring to in my earlier post.. It will run like crap, but get better.

It's a lot easier than tearing apart the carb. That can be a deep rabbit hole.
