Engine mods 4 Years, 4 Months ago
OK guys, like always i am never satisfied with the bike. I have recently purchased Speedstar Hi-Comp pistons (10.25:1), 1700 cams to be given a hotrod grind from looney, and heavy duty valve springs. Ive been told i will be adjustable pushrods and new lifters but i am not sure where i should be looking for these items. Also, does anyone know what kind of performance changes i should see from these upgrades?? I got all the parts for cheap (only about $225 so for the above mentioned parts) looking at another $250 for the regrind but just trying to find pushrods and lifters. Help please guys!

High performance Mopar lifters for a 318? I have HT-2011 lifters in mine. Don't know if there needs to be a particular upgrade to the lifter body for HC and a bumper cam. A couple of the mods know.......

Will 1700 cams work in a 1600 motor?

For some reason I'm thinking the Warrior cams will but the straight 1700 won't. I put stock 1600 cams back in mine.

I've read that the HC pistons bring on their own set of problems. The Road Star doesn't need more compression to run better. The best bang for the buck is the Speedstar roller cams L & D has for the 1600. http://www.ldcustombikewurks.com/looneycams.htm

I thought I read that HC pistons alone bump you up 15-20 hp. One of the bikes I looked at before I settled for my 01 was a 99 with a 1775 kit and cam(s) His dyno sheet was 93 hp 124 ft lbs, with a stock carb (jetted obviously) I was quite close to buying it, but it was ridden HARD so I decided against it.

using 2 head gaskets is asking for problems and it will undo some of the compression that you are trying to gain with the pistons. If anyone ever tells you to stack head gaskets end your conversation with them about anything mechanical.

+1 The only gasket that is safe to stack is a wax ring for your toilet and that's only if you're having height or levelness issues.

2 headgaskets isn't a good idea - leaks. Also the HC upgrade requires premium gas and if the Dyna is used to back off on the timing then some of the gain goes away. Hard cranking is another consideration.

L.A. Sleeve has Nikasil liner kits up to 113 ci. Like they say - nothing beats displacement. I've dealt with them and they are very good at what they do.
