Windsheid not tall enough 9 Years, 9 Months ago

Hello everyone.
I preffer riding without the windsheid but for the lond rides I'd like to have the opption of putting one on. What size windsheild should I be looking for? I'm finding that I'm just a little too tall, I'm 6'2" & I'm getting alot of buffeting off of the top of the windsheild. Does anyone know what the measurement of the standard Silverado windsheild is & where do you take the measurements from? I think the OEM windsheild comes in 3 sizes.

They get measured from the top of the headlight cut out. You can go here and look up the windshields. Star You can also get just the plastic here. Direct bolt on. Ceebaileys Make sure the buffeting isn't coming from under the shield. You might need lowers.

The top of the windshield should be in front of your nose. When it is the right height most of the bugs will be deflected to hit the top of your helmet and you won't get them in the face. If you are looking through the glass driving down the street it is too high. If it is too short you get the bugs in the face.

Hello!
Yamaha has 3 different size windshields for the Roadie. The stock Silverado comes with the medium size. They also have a tall which is 3'' taller, and a short which is 3'' shorter. Hope that helps!

Yamaha also has the 3 wide sizes. They are 3 inches wider than stock and come in the same heights as the regular ones.
I'm 6'2" and run my stock silverado sheild at the lowest setting so and it comes about nose high. Adding a set of lowers did help to get rid of some head buffeting.

General rule of thumb: top of windshield 2" below the eyes (line of sight)

Thx for your input gents,
Please bare with me I'll have lots of questions until I get confident with how this bike is supposed to feel. I'll have to put it back on to see just where it lines up. Too bad they aren't adjustable up or down just a little.
Thx again

Depending on what notch you have it on they can be adhusted up or down. But not really by small increments.

01Roadrunner;
I had severe buffeting when I got my R*, but the lowers DRASTICALLY reduced it. My windshield is a Silverado tillte back as far as it goes.
The buffeting actually come from the wind coming up from around your tank. If I'm wrong I'm sure I'll hear it
That's what I found anywho.
ps......don't install them like I did....... burp

Clifford I really hate to put my 2cents in here but since when is looking through the windshield too high. It is a matter of preferrence. I like looking through the windshield giving me full protection to the face and with the seats being king & queen my wife sits higher so for her protection I prefer the larger windshield that I look through. Also not that I would do it but when your windshield is high enough to look through you are not required to wear eye protection as you have the windshield. But please don't lead people who are not familiar with windshields into thinking that if they look through the windshield it is WRONG! cause it's NOT!
