#1025258 masterhermit (User) Expert Boarder Posts: 583 HELP...... one piston not firing 3 Months, 1 Week ago   hello all..... im about to go to my son's to try to fix his R.... he has told me that all of a sudden his bike started coughing and died then when he got it started again apart from it sounding and running really bad he could tell by touch that only one cylinder was firing. (rear) 2004 carbed roadstar not sure what to expect, all he has tried so far is new spark plugs.... still only one piston firing. my thoughts are dirty carb..... only squirting just enough fuel which gets sucked up by one cylinder leaving nothing for the next.....? he said he checked spark but i will check that myself.... but if all plugs have a spark..... ? what are your thoughts....? what else can i try....? i do have a spare ignition box i could try.... but id like to hear from the brain trust   Logged     The administrator has disabled public write access. #1025259 Lifeguard (User) Alright everybody out of the pool. Platinum Boarder Posts: 1108 Re:HELP...... one piston not firing 3 Months, 1 Week ago   If in fact it is a non-firing spark plug then there are two quick things to go through. 1 is the condition of the plugs themselves and they may be fried; 2 check the coil wires. If the coils are not sending power to the plugs then there will be issues with firing on that cylinder. If this bike has dyna coils or some other non-OEM coils there may be an issue with the small wiring leading to the coils. Now he could have a air leak on the intake manifold to head connection on the front cylinder. If both cylinders have good spark plugs and good spark,I would start checking for an air leak. If he don't have spark on the front cyl check the coil and wires/connections going to the coil and spark plug wires including the cap resistor. You can even remove the plug boot/cap and snip the wire back on the end,then reinstall the boot/cap. You’ll find plenty of threads on the matter. That’s not my bike in the video.
