Re:new bike... problems 7 Years, 9 Months ago
I changed main DJ from 175 to 170 because I was running too rich and the mpg was something arround 32 (we count it different - ca. 7l/100km).
With the kit I got 160, 170, 175, 190, 195, 200, 210

I'm guessing that poor mileage was from somthing else like a high float level or pilot adjustmsnt. I'm sorry but I don't understand what your mpg is. On a cross referance chart your DJ 170 would be about a 158.7 mikuni jet and that is too small if you were running a mikuni main it would be between a 170-175 so the main I quoted from the Dj would be correct.

I checked the float level and it's ca 2-3mm above the rear float bowl edge. By mpg I ment the "miles per galon" as I though it would be more usefull for you. In Europe we use different "liters per 100km". I can check the float level again or try to set it lower.

Welcome Luknor. Don't worry about your english , some of us don't speak it (or type it) that well either.

If the Air box is stock , and you are jetting the bike , it WILL be rich. Most jet kits use a larger Pilot jet than stock , which is not needed. You need a stock pilot.

You do have the option of a poormans BAK (which is basically you drilling multiple 1/2 (13mm) holes in the body of the stock air box. This will allow more air in to work in harmony with the extra fuel.

You need to either 1. get a better breathing air box (aftermarket or home done). or 2. jet bike back to stock. If you go with 2 , it will run fine with the V&H exhaust.

Hope this points you in the right direction.

If I remember correctly he don't have the stock needle or jets and the availability isn't that great. That is what I'm trying to get him back close to. Maybe you can help with the Dj jet size and needle that will get him back closest to stock.

It will be difficult (maybe not impossible) to get it to jet out clean using a kit of any sort. That is due to the stock air box. It's just too restrictive , and the tapered needles that come in all the jet kits are much more progressive than that fat stock needle. You are giving sound advice , but it will be a lot easier for Luke to either round up the stock stuff (I understand availability in Poland might not be so great), or mod the air box to work with the jetting he does have. The good thing about modding the box , if that interest him , is He already has the parts (or most) and a power increase. His lack of (OEM)parts is why I suggested the mods. Hope I'm not getting in the way , and making this more confusing for him. BB

If he's running such a lean jet and still having a rich environment, maybe its not all in the carb, could be spark aiding in his problem as well? 25K miles, how do the wires look, what kind of plugs are you using (if you mentioned that already, pardons) Just a thought.

? to ask what year bike, and what size pilot jet.
The pilot is usually the biggest culpret to fuel, cause the main doesn't come into play til your on the throttle.
