Stripped my Allen bolts 4 Years, 11 Months ago
Well I tried to install my cobra fatty freeway bars but stripped out the heads of the darn Allen head bolts that hold the floorboards on. Tried applying some heat to them but they didn't budge. Just ended up rounding them out. So I read that some pipe nipple extractors will help get them out. I'll pick some up later this week and try it out again this coming weekend. I hate when something simple is held up from a stripped out bolt. Never fails.

On the upside, I got my chrome switch covers installed and the vance and hines longshots installed. Boy those thunder monster baffles sure do sound good. Thanks loco gringo for the pipes and a great deal.

Here is a link of the extractors ill be using. Let me know if any of you have tried these and if it worked.

I had that happen on my 99. Welded a nut to the bolt with my mig and it came right out. If you know someone with a welder, might try it.

Those should work. I have a set that are longer (taller). I drill fairly deep to get a good grip.

Just remember... 1) you're not the first to strip a bolt. 2) It WILL come out even though you swear you're trying everything to no avail. 3) This will happen again in the future on another part. .

Takes a lot more heat than people think to get that stuff to let go. There has to be enough to heat the bolt, and what it's running into above 250 degrees. You may have to go for a very long time with something like a hair dryer to get that much heat that deep.

I sat there and just stared at it for awhile after I realized this wasn't gonna happen today. I wished I was a Jedi master so I could use the force. Lol. I'll get it out this next weekend. Just takes the right tool, I guess. Which I didn't have.

I have a $14 heat gun that will set the world on fire. Got it at O'Reilly's and it has worked on every stuck thing I have found. Big Bear is right you can get a spot to punch on if you use a cold chisel to get a starting place to punch on.

I would recommend using an easy out set like this.

+1 on choice of proper tool. The nipple extractors you're thinking about are for pipe....not bolts.

Thanks guys. Yeah I know the tool I'm looking at is for pipe nipples but I read on a few forums that they work great on rounded out Allen heads. Some here on the clinic suggested them as well. Either way I'm gonna extract those suckers one way or the other. I'll keep ya posted once I get me out. Definately gonna apply more heat though.
