Did not know this, I have a 1700 ecm in my parts box, and I have a 1600. Maybe I will give it a try!

It's tucked in there in a rat's nest, but not real difficult.
Where the hell is it?

In front of the battery. You pull the battery,....and then see what else I haven't been in there yet, but it's plug and play, once you get to it.

You end up having to loosen a good part of the harness on the left side under the cover. It's mostly a patience deal. I was in and out in 20 minutes, but I had to take pictures to make sure I got it all back in right!

I just went through the 2004 tech update manual and there isn't any mention of the advance curve changing. The additional power of the 1700 was accomplished by the changed rocker arm ratio and the increased working angle of the cams. The cam lift is the same as the 1600. And of course 68 more cc's of displacement.
Has anyone ever used 1700 rockers in a 1600 for the increased valve lift or is that not possible, its common in cars all the time but wasn't sure about motorcycle, just a thought

I'm pretty sure that won't work. The pushrod angles are all different. On cars you can buy rockers with a different ratio. The 1700 Road Star is a whole different animal than the 1600 as far as the valve train goes.

Ok so I met a former clinic mod and he said that one of the best mods I could do was to stick a 1700 ecm into my 02 1600. Has anybody done this? If so can you explain it to me?

You didn't think I would lie about something as important horsepower......would you? Thanks again for lunch!

No I didn't think you would lie, we just didn't get to finish our conversation. I had more questions and since I didn't have access to you, I did the next best thing.
