Doc, Do like Curt says, Once you have all the plugs out go to an auto parts store and buy the 14mm headed magnetic plugs to replace them with. WALA NO MORE PROBLEM. PS> don't use the plastic gasket that comes with the new plugs buy some copper washers like are on brake banjo fittings they have a pack with all different sizes

This is what I did a couple years ago and have never looked back since, now oil changes are a breeze for me.The best $5 I ever spent at AutoZone

The Craftsman wrench is too fat, but the Snap-On fits NO problem! Try a Snap-On wrench. Mine fit perfectly!

Craftsman must have changed the design in the last 20 years. My craftsman box end has always worked perfect.

Doc, yes. I have used these. I stripped one of the rear brake caliper bolts. These worked awesome and worth the money.

I would have suggested this earlier, but I didn't think you had room to get them on. ?

Yah, I'm sure they do a good job however, you hit the nail on the head... Will they work in the tight spaces around the drain plug. I'm hoping someone will chime in and say "yes" they've used them specifically for the drain plug. As bad as that design is, I've got to imagine there are others who have had issues with an *uber tight*, partially stripped drain plug.

If I remember right you can get a socket on there but not a ratchet. If it wasn't rainingt here I'd go out and check for ya. But if it does fit then use one of those ratcheting wrenches on the bolt out.

I had to grind my socket down so I could get the ratchet in as well. But this sounds like Doc's beyond that cause he's already rounded the hex down on the bolt head. I say get on your back, put some heat to it with a torch and then use a cold chisel and a hammer to walk it around til it's loose.

As mentioned once you get it out.

get a copper crush washer, or in a pinch a spark plug washer is a crush washer and will work.

I wouldn't do that. This is your crank case we're talking about if you mess up, not an oil pan thats fairly easily replaced. But. It's your bike

Man, that must be one tight plug. I bought a 17mm wrench at the pawn and cut a couple inches off to make it a stubby. So far it has always worked well.

If the head is stripped to the point that a conventional tool (the right wrench) won't get it , you might try the chisel method. Tap the side of the head of the bolt with the chisel till it digs in enough to allow you to take a good whack or two at it. Once it bust loose , toss it and replace it with the 14mm headed one from the auto parts store. Oil changes will be easier from here on out with it. The Roadliner has 2(!) of those stupid plugs to deal with on the crankcase. BB
