OK........good to go ! Just pulled my pulley cover and found the nut tight and the washer tang still flat against the nut, no sign of being loose. Also pulled the nylon rollers and slightly greased the pins with high temp grease I had on hand. I thank all who post these issues for the rest of us members who are not too savy on some maintenance issues which could be very costly. I'm on vacation and riding to Ruidoso, NM on Thurs morning with others for the annual Golden Aspen Ralley which is being held at the Inn of the Mountain Gods Casino where I'll be staying this year and I'll have piece of mind for the 2 hr run in regards to the pulley ! Probably run into Tim B for sure and who knows who else

PS: Greysnake.....gots me a new Craftsman MM Hex socket set and a 1/2-3/8" reducer to use on my 1/2' drive rachet handle for extra "HUEVOS" which cracked the bolts with ease ! Thank you for the tip

I think it loosens very quickly, So tight to me does ot mean a lot. Just means you dodged a bullet and should install some red threadlocker. But then I am just an idiot with very limited experience. Just 12K miles year round in Ohio. Armature opinion at best.

Okay, I checked mine and the nut is tight and hasn't moved. What I did find though was the tabbed washer only had one tab bent down, the other wasn't since it was over one of the points on the nut.
I took some pliers and bent it around the point anyway and I'm thinking of just getting a new washer and doing the locktite since the washer looks rusted and bent rather easily.

Photos of nut:

While the cover was off I was looking for washers the other pulley nut article mentions would fall, and didn't find any. However I did find two parts that look like they fell in there at some point.
The first I think I can identify as one of the backing nuts off the battery, the second I have no idea. If anyone recognizes it, please let me know. It is a raised washer with no threading inside.

Thanks.

When I dealt with this issue on my 'Liner (yes , they have the same problem) , dealer was on my side.....Yamaha , not so much.

So I asked the rep , "I'm supposed to maintenance something not mentioned in the owners manual ?" I also was told that an Extended warranty would have covered it. So I then asked " So , It's my responsibility to buy a warranty , to make sure that the job was done right from the factory?"

Bottom line....Yamaha rep told me "too bad". Easy enough for me , I learned years ago to vote with my wallet. Take my hard earned $$ to a company that cared about customer service and safety. I in turn told them my next new bike would NOT be a Yamaha. I like my 'Liner , but not the customer service end of the company.

BTW , parts qoute alone was over a grand.....not including labor. Did it all myself from parts from a totaled Raider. BB
