That depends on how long it ran like that. Do you have any oil leaking around the pully shaft. If not then it's probably ok. But without seeing it don't know. Mine has worked loose. If I'm thinking you have the one that you take a drift punch and reset the flange on the nut after you tighten it.

Thats the setup I have. Just changed to a 31T pulley last week and the locknut has the flange that you stake into the slot in the shaft also used red loctite and be sure to put the heavy washer on with the side marked "OUT" on the outside, It is crowned and the crown must be on the outside

Re:Gears, Gears and more Gears 6 Years, 7 Months ago
Anyone know what the outcome of this thread is?? Was it the Front Pulley nut?? Last night I'm riding two up on some unfamiliar roads. . .
Going down hill I'm using 5th gear to kinda keep the speed in check and I hear this noise coming from between me and the wife down around
the pulley that sounds like bearings 'swishing' around. This was an all of a sudden noise first time I had ever hard this. . .I'll be taking
the cover off this afternoon after work but just wondering how likely it is the nut??

Thanks
Tim

=================

Just a suggestion ,use blue medium grade loctite on front pulley nut which will hold just fine which is what i used when i installed a 31t pulley on my 06 silverado last yr.

The blue/medium loctite is a strong holding product but the red loctite is just about impossible to get off later on ,been there mult times over the yrs. Have actuall had bolt break due to red loctite holding so dang tight.

I only use the red loctite for extreem condtions like flwheel/pressure plate bolts on hi perf motor but other then that i have never had the blue loctite loosen up on anything i have used it on like my motorcycles/cars/car motors /items with plenty of vibration and or force applied and blue loctite has never let go on me.

Just to let everyone know. . . .It wasn't the nut, it was good'n tight (Did I really JUST say that??) anyway there's a lot of
Oil and Chat roads here in ILL and one of the main roads I travel was "re-paved". When I pulled the cover off I had about
8-12 chat rocks in there. Had to wait for the garage to cool off so will give her a test ride this afternoon. I also found out the rear tire is shot after a little over 9K. Now wondering if that chat eats tires for breakfast? I'm down to the cord of a d404. . .

and that is another reason to run an open pulley! Toss parts and covers you don't need, lose some weight and it looks nice......

TVoso, I worked on building that new power plant 5 miles south of your house.The roads are very nice for riding as far as scenery goes but they are abrasive on tires....i run the same tire on the back of my bike it has 4500 on it and it looks new. we will have to ride some time, I'm in florissant,mo.
