over by me the hd dealership became a big dog dealer as well which did not help them in any way...since then this past year they started dealing bmw and servicing bmws and the service and parts guys both told me business definitely started rising, people were walking in to buy bmws and ended up buying harleys and some the other way around, but regardless they have been making a bunch of money from it all... i think harley should bring their prices down without a doubt but pairing up with the right companies can also keep them afloat, i just dunno if going asian for them is the right move since the image is so anti "jap crap" but going a different way like ducati or bmw is a different ball game imho

I guess those HD mechanics are going to have to invest in some metric tools.

Mangos for Motorcycles. What a concept. Yet another loss of American jobs by our federal government.

I have to defend Hyosung, as I have owned one (a GT250)& was very pleased with it. First off, Hyosung is manufactured in SOUTH KOREA not China. Hyosung has been a supplier & motorcycle builder for Suzuki for many, many years & actually produce several of their models; for example the SV650, SV1000, V-STROM650 & V-STROM1000. The GT250 like the one I had is the most powerful 250 sold. At 30+ horsepower, it'll do well over 100 mph. The HP per cc is much-much better than our beloved Road Stars. I put 25k miles on my Hyosung before selling it to buy my Roadie, and didn't have the 1st problem with it. Granted, the fit & finish is not up to par with our Roadies, but it cost 5 times less (& will almost best it on top speed)! I miss that bike sometimes.

the 125 and 250 hyosung bikes are pretty good, but the 650 was dire.

the 650 sold like hotcakes here, not suprisingly due to the styling and specs, but then the problems started.

- regulators failing

- alternators burning out

- digital clocks failing

- clutch cutout switches failing

- sidestand cutout switches failing

- gas tanks leaking at the welds

- water pumps failing

- handlebar riser bolts shearing.

all of my clients who bought them have had at least 3 of those problems, and luckily only 1 had the riser bolt shear which resulted in a broken leg.

they really screwed up badly with that bike.

the thing i don´t understand is how they could take an SV 650 an mess it up so badly. the design of the water pump is different and worse, as is the alternator (the oil filter is also in a different location, but that´s o.k.). why they didn´t just use the suzuki engine without changing anything defies logic, as the warranty claims must have cost far in excess of what they´d have paid for the licences.

If he is a REAL HD mechanic, he already has metric tools in his tool box
