Thoughts/suggestions/ideas for sissy bar brackets 3 Years, 12 Months ago
I like to run my R* Midnight Silverado without the passenger seat & backrest 95% of the time. I have Mustang seats (solo + passenger) and a rear fender bib for when the passenger seat is off. I use the hard saddlebags a lot and like the look, so I leave those on all the time. I'm trying to find something to 'cap' off the backrest brackets and would love to hear any suggestions on what might fit in there. I like the Landon grab rail, but I doubt I'll be able to get my hands on one. I don't really like the "Custom World International Passenger Grab Rail".

Just something that will fit in the openings and make it look finished, preferably chrome.

Thanks,
Danny

I take my chrome side brackets off when I do what you are doing and then use 4 steel spacers (2 per side) to take up the space. You can see the spacers between the fender and the bag mounts in this photo.

What about the fender brows?

Yea, I like the fender brows. Obviously I don't have any cuz I usually have my bags attached. But they really clean up the fender and makes it pop.

Thanks. Looks like that was a one shot deal on the grab rail though.

I like the fender brow too, but I want to keep the hard saddle bags on so that won't work.

I thought about pulling off the side brackets and using spacers. Looks like you have the hard bag brackets (is that right?). If so, do you have to take the bag brackets off to get the backrest brackets off and on the bike? My wife does ride with me sometimes and I'm trying to avoid a setup that takes too long to change out.

From what I understand the stock leather and hard bag brackets are the same. You have to remove the bags to loosen or remove the bracket/fender bolts. You can just loosen them and spread the bag brackets from the fender and remove the sissy bar mounts, but you risk scratching your fender. There are just two remaining bolts on the front of the bag brackets so you might as well remove the entire bracket. Just do it! Taking stuff apart is the best way to learn.

Tearing anything apart is never a problem. What I'm really after in this case is a way to switch back and forth (solo seat & bib only - to - passenger seat & backrest) without taking an hour+ to do it. To me, that means leaving the brackets in place all the time and coming up with something that makes them look finished when the backrest isn't installed (like the Landon grab rail does).
