Thanks to all of y'all for the advice. I wound with 172.5 main, 35pilot. aroound 2-1/2 turns on the PMS, and 4th groove with 1 washer under the plastic washer on the needle, adjusted a bit on the timing and duration of the accleorator pump, And Pearl is AWESOME! not 1 cough and she hauls ass! Ready to ride tomorrow.

Glad you got it sorted out. Go back to the 37.5 pilot jet and it will be even more impressive. If you do re-adjust the PMS about a 1/4 turn in.

your statement :

" adjusted a bit on the timing and duration of the accleorator pump, And Pearl is AWESOME! not 1 cough and she hauls ass! Ready to ride tomorrow."

backs up what i have stated here in rsc time after time that i feel the accell pump is the main thing that fixes off idle stumble/popping back thru carb in a situation like your motors case when applying throttle.

Thats because the accell pump is specifically designed for just that situation to cover iup a temp lean cond with a shot of fuel when twisting throttle coming off idle and why its there in the 1st place which is often overlooked here when talking off idle stumbles with a carb.

Many people start right out with recommending recalibrating carb jetting/pilot/needle clip setting etc right off the bat without 1st ensuring the accell pump is working and then is adj exactly right along with pms being properly adj not being too lean (ensure idle speed in 900-950rpm too) when the motors running fine in all other aspects before diving into recalibrating the carb to fix an off idle stumble which can be done that way but isnt the proper way and or order to approach an off idle stumble when applying throttle.

And more of then not when the motor running good in all other areas and just popping comming off idle an off idle getting accell pump adj right with proper 900-959 odle speed fixes an off idle stumble without doing anything else like going into the carb when it may not be needed in the 1st place which is my point saving significant time & hastle when not needed.

Now to me not doing it when the choke is on says there is a lean condition. Richening that lean condition with the choke wouldn't make up for a lean condition due to the lack of acc pump squirt. That lean condition from lack of acc pump would still be there when the throttle plate opens and the needle lifts out of the main jet.

Scott adjusting the "duration" was the least of his fix. If he said he just adjusted the timing because it wasn't coming in at the beginning of the throttle twist I would say you might be on to something. In fact he originally said the squirt from the acc pump was checked and OK. For the duration adjustment to give the problem he was having it would have to be almost shut off all together. As I said earlier fix the "KNOWN" problems first and we all know a 167.5 main is WRONG for a 1700.

In fact this is what he said

"This is intermittent doesn't do it every time and usually only after is fully warmed up. There is no popping through the exhaust at all, and other than this the bike is running great. When I blip the throttle it does not cough, and I have looked at the squirt when I blip the throttle and it looks like it is squirting when the throttle blade starts to open"
