#1024294 cike (User) Platinum Boarder Posts: 3234 most dependable higher mileage bikes 4 Months ago   I know we have all seen the results of Yamaha being the most dependable bike again. Does anyone do a study showing what are the most dependable higher mileage bikes? I'm thinking like after 50K I tried a google search but didn't find much. I did see a lot of people saying that BMW was one of the best bikes to get high mileage out of, which I thought was weird since they ranked low on the dependability list of new bikes. Of course several people mentioned gold wings. Also people say that v-twins last longer than inline 4's bikes due to the 4's being higher reving. But, isn't the Goldwing a inline 4? These are bikes that I have seen my customers put over 100k on. I have a friend who put 98k on a 2014 Harley Davidson and they are currently installing a new engine under warranty. I never repaired a Roadstar until I bought this one. (Check everything for tightness during maintenance! I found a lot of stuff coming loose with only 6,242 on my bike). It has a lot to do with how you treat your machine. My SV650 has 86K miles on it, almost 77K on my Road Star. Seen a great variety of motorcycles with 6 digit mileage on them, but relatively few over 200. That would be older BMW boxer twins, 1100cc and less, 6 cylinder Gold Wings (one 4 cylinder (1100) wing) Moto Guzzis (again, older bikes) and the occasional Suzuki Cavelcade, Yamaha Venture, etc. It takes a certain TYPE of bike to keep people interested in keeping them going that long. You’re not going to find many of today’s throw away variety of machines making mileage like that. I have seen 305cc Honda Dreams with 250,000 miles brought into the dealership for a oil change. Not kidding. The results of my study so far is that I am at 150,000 miles and still going strong. The only things it needs are a new clutch (starting to slip), new steering head bearings, and that M....rF...ing light bar on the front keeps shorting out an trying to melt my wiring harness again. My observation is: Buy a Roadstar and ride forever. That said, I'm getting the Venture next March for longer trips to like say Sturgis, Kentucky Bourbon tours, Pennsylvania to see the parents....stuff like that.   Logged     The administrator has disabled public write access. #1024652 Cass (User) If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
