Stratoliner Deluxe Tach/Speedo on R* 5 Years, 4 Months ago
Couple of things that bug me about the stock set-up:

1. No heads-up gauges-- Especially when wearing a full-face helmet, it can be really annoying, taking my eyes off the road for information.

2. No tachometer-- IMHO a tach is very nice to have if you start tuning your bike... I managed without when I rejetted, but only by trial and error.

Now I realize that if I did manage to implement the Stratoliner set-up on the R* Complaint #2 would aggravate Complaint #1 (i.e. even more looking down) so I have two different proposals. The first accepts Complaint #1 because of the cool factor in having the stylish set-up from the Deluxe!

...and the second proposal would be to alleviate Complaint #1 completely by switching to a full heads-up configuration, which would most likely result in a conversation with Dakota Digital. Regarding the stock speedo, cover it with a chrome plate or switch out to a tank without gauges... you tell me?

Questions to be answered:

Can the Deluxe set-up be fitted to the R*? and Has anyone already done it?

If the stock speedo is completely eliminated, what other tank and gauge set-up ideas are out there?

That dash would look very nice on a R* ,no idea if any of it would match the R* speedo sender etc, some times the motorcycle gods look down and help,Just a thought I would like to make the R* speedo / dash sit not so flat

Absolutely, but I don't know that it'd be enough to make a difference!

I like where you're going with that. Not only would all the parts fit together, but I'm pretty sure the Strat tank packs more gallons than the R*.

Well - get busy and let us know if it works!

I would love to have another gallon of gas for the highway and a tach would be sweet!

Actually, according to the published specs, the Strat/Liner tank holds 4.49 gal. as compared to 5.28 on the R* (99 thru 07 models) due to the Strat/Liner fuel pump taking up some of the space in the tank. The 08 & up R*'s also have the pump in the tank, so their capacities are lower as well. If the pump were removed, the capacities should be the same. Cool factor aside, wouldn't a $65 tach mounted on the bars do the trick cheaper & easier?

I've never been able to put more than 4 1/2 gallons in my R tank, even from bone dry. Anyone out there actually get 5+ gallons in their Roadie?

I've had my R* new in 2000 and 70,000 miles later I can tell you there is no way I have ever gotten more then about 4.9 gallons. I have always questioned what yamaha quotes the tank will hold.
