Thinking about a Stratoliner Deluxe 5 Years, 5 Months ago
Thinking about trading my 2001 Roadie for a new 2010 Stratoliner Deluxe. Around 8K out the door to boot. What do you all think? good idea or a bad idea.

You know I've also been lookin' at them over the past couple of days. Read a good article comparing the Vaquero, Electra, and Stratoliner (http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/10/10474/Motorcycle-Article/2011-Bagger-Cruiser-Shootout.aspx).
Came away from the article thinking that aside from the styling it wouldn't be worth moving away from the R* for me. Even though it has good ground clearance it still handled poorly in the turns, and the only thing that kept it from coming in last was the big engine...

ya know, sswiss, that is one of the best articles and video I have seen on 3 comparable bikes. Plus that scenery was familiar since I've done same route before. Brought back some good memories, very enjoyable.

I agree with your analysis, enjoy what you have in the roadstar ....... or in other words, keep making it your own! These are just great bikes!

Bummer.

With the continual reduction of availability of aftermarket parts for the Metric bikes, as well as the constant increase in prices for those parts, I'm thinking that keeping the Roadie and enjoying it for what it is make the most sense.

Maybe picking up a used Roadliner might be in my future, but otherwise, if I were really wanting a Road-king or Road-Glide I'd just pony up and get one.

There are tons of accessories available for the HDs and I don't see that changing any time soon. Have you been to a bookstore lately? Around a dozen or more magazines for HD enthusiasts and about 2 left for metric cruiser riders.

Just my 2c.

Besides all that, if you really want a go fast cruiser, do what my son did and pick up a Triumph Rocket III. He got a used 2008 with less than 10k on it for around 9k. Had it dynoed a month ago - 145 torque 125 hp at the rear wheel! Personally, I think it's pretty ugly and huge - we call it Behemoth - but it is undeniably one of the fastest, quickest, hardest pulling torque monsters I've ever ridden. The newer one makes even more torque - like 165 at the rear wheel.

There you have it. Now quit your whining and go ride your bike!

well i have to tell you thereis no comparison in the two bikes ride, performance ,comfort, its like comparing a S-10 vs. cadilac, last winter I looked around till I found the strat used low miles. I only ride my rs when I feel bad about not riding it or when I'm doing work on the liner. nice used liner goes for about 7000.00 in the dead of winter.

If I had the money I'd do it. I love the Strat deluxe, all it needs is a cool 113ci air cleaner, freedom duals, a quick detach tour pack, and an Ultimate seeat set! Good to go anywhere then!
