sitting on the side of the road 6 Years, 6 Months ago

Well it happened today... Fuel pump stopped working. I was on the side of the road with no tools except what came with the bike (very little) and I figured it was the pump because of all the reading on the clinic. I can hear the relay click once but no pump sound. So after a couple of cigs and laziness ( i did not want to walk) I took my tank off and cut the gas line to feed direct. ![](https://wayback.archive-it.org/10073/20180226172733im_/http://roadstarclinic.com/components/com_fireboard/template/rsc5/images/english/emoticons/wink.png) And I was back on the road!!!!:
I would like to know if there are any negatives to going pumpless. And what valve do I order?
Thanks,
Mark ![](https://wayback.archive-it.org/10073/20180226172733im_/http://roadstarclinic.com/images/fbfiles/images/IMG_2863-e72cd6bba4d1c3bfbb9f84e9a0cd60f7.JPG)

Thanks....I have read the article and was just wondering if there were any drawbacks to going pumpless. ![](https://wayback.archive-it.org/10073/20180226172733im_/http://roadstarclinic.com/images/fbfiles/images/IMG_2863-1d2b2567a41a3b6eacf1191a9eb88c0b.JPG)

Wow, you got lucky. I couldn't get my hose to reach the petcock once I took it off the fuel pump. I had to take a plastic pen, pull it apart a jam it into the fuel lines after they were off the pump. It leaked a little but did the job. Plus like you I had close to a full tank of gas. I found out the hard way that if the gas in your tank gets below half. Their will not be enough weight in the fuel to hold open that stupid little valve you wanted to know about.
My new fuel pump lives under the right side cover and now if it goes bad I have lots of fuel line to play with. I can only hope enough gas to.

I used the Suzuki 2.5 needle valve with a pingle petcock and filter.
I also vented the cap and took the small screen out of the inlet on the carb.
Even running the fuel line under the manifold I'm down to around 3/4 to 1 gal of fuel left before I go on reserve.

Dumped the pump on both my R*s. Ran the fuel line over the manifold. Found a perfect filter at Autozone. I didn't vent the cap... didn't do anything else, but cut down the main fuel feed line of the petcock by 1/2".
All has been well since. Really cleans up the left side of the motor, too!
