Hi guys I want to get a big fat tire for the back of my road star whats the biggest I can get with out any mods I have a 170 at the moment and whats involved if I want to go a lot bigger thank you in advance

Well, you are about maxed out with the 170 "without any mods". Wider would involve a wider rim to support the wider tire (yours, if stock is rather shoe-horned on there), grinding down the brake stay and internal fender "ears" a touch. There's a simple diagram around somewhere with these "pictured". There's a few on here with 200's mounted, but pretty sure a little more in-depth work is required. I was setup for a 180, but realistically, the internal fender support is going to be the limitation.

SO, I right understand, that 170 tire works without any mods (and grinding smth) with stock rim?

I'm interested in Metzeler marathon 888 ultra 170\70-16 rear and 140\90-16 front
I don't like popular michelin commander II (bad at cold and/or wet weather..)

Years ago I had a bridgestone in 170/70-16 and it fit fine, it was tight but didn't rub anywhere....
