EBC Spring Thumbs Up!! 6 Months, 1 Week ago
My clutch started slipping quite a while ago in 5th 2 up. SO on the advice given here I bought the EBC spring. It sat on the shelf for over a year as I babied it along. 4K later I finally HAVE to change the thing out. Startedd slipping in 2nd under hard accel. SO I pick up some clutch plates too, just in case. I'm glad I did, I just rolled over 72K and the clutch pad weren't completely gone butt here wasn't much groove left. So I swapped the whole clutch out. Pressure plate and intermediate plates were perfect, no sign of wear at all, no bluing either.

But I will say that EBC Spring is way heavier and feels 1000% better than the stocker, thanks guys for all the advice. I would of went with the Barret, but money is just too tight this year.

Need top get my profile pic updated in here, haven't had time to get on lately.

I'm glad to hear that. They had some problems with the first batch a few years back. Sounds like they got it fixed. The price can't be beat.

I've been running the EBC spring for about 5 years now and have put over 20,000 miles on it since installing.
The stock spring made it to about 18k before starting to slip, swapped in the EBC and I'm now just over 39K.
Still holding up like day one, no slip at all even when it's screaming hot.
The Barnette works fine, but for the money the EBC works just as well, it's just not purple.
It also is easier to install than the purple one.

Texas or does anyone else recall what the issue was they had on the earlier ebc springs? I bought one recently, installed it and had a faint chirping sound under load. It's not my drive belt because it only started after I put in the ebc spring.

I then pulled it back out to inspect everything and make sure it was fairly flat and not warped at purchase etc. On my granite countertop it rocked a little.. maybe about a .012" feeler gauge of a gap. I figured it flatens out anyway when the assembly ring is bolted down onto it so i went ahead and reinstalled it but still have some faint chirping sounds, maybe not as much as before tho. Other than the faint chirping under load it works great in every other way. It took care of my clutch slipping.

From what I remember they were weak. Someone here was dealing with EBC about the problem. I also remember something about a white paint spot on the ones that were good after the problem was solved. Wish I could remember who here was involved with that.

A belleville spring should rest flat on your counter top. They're supposed to be manufactured to pretty exacting specifications. I'd contact EBC and see what they say.

They never sold the prototype to the public, Not very likely you have a bad spring but an install issue. But like others said check with EBC

Don't be to quick to rule out the belt chirp. It's very possible that the new spring is torqueing the belt a bit more than the old one............

Also, was the throwout bearing replaced with the spring? Always a good idea. And was the clutch free play checked when the engine was cold? Set it when the engine is hot and there probably won't be any when the engine is cold.

And like Flashback said don't rule out a belt chirp just yet.

Yeah i thought it should rest flatter too. ebc may say differnt. The stock spring was dead flat on the counter. I'll contact them and see. As mentioned the chirping sound is becoming very very faint as though it is "seating" itself in over some riding. The performce has been normal and fine. My first thought was my install also but after inspecting it twice I was able to rule that out. If ebc says it should be good and flat I'll see if they might want it back to have a look at it.

Just saw the other great replies. Good thoughts. I hadn't considered the different torque affect on the drive belt but I'll look closer at that. Thanks. Bearing is the same. Bike has 30k. I will make sure it's not belt chirping before opening my big mouth to ebc.
