She finally let me down after 62k 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I was 30 miles from home on a 300 mile day trip. After filling up I tried to start it and the speedometer and gas needles froze in mid sweep. 2008, so it is FI. It would not turn over and the speedo and gas were stuck even after turning the key on and off. After pushing it over to the side I notice the needles are back to zero. Now it cranks and barely starts. Lots of black smoke from muffler and then dies. Noticed my tach which is wired to the forward coil was not working. I'm renting a motorcycle trailer tomorrow morning. I'll let everybody know what the problem was when I figure it out. I am starting by checking the coils.

Always best to check the simple things before getting too involved. I suggest you take a look at your battery leads.

Had a similar issue this weekend with the same frozen needles and everything after stopping for a fill up. Put the key in and nothing. Fortunately, I'd swapped batteries from my other bike the day before, so I checked the connection to the battery and sure enough it was loose. I tightened it up and all was good again!

Best of luck.

+1 Loose connections or a bad battery can cause some strange things to happen. A good place to start.

Like Doc-V said. If you can swap batteries try that.

Thanks guys. I'm picking up the trailer in 45 min. My bike was parked at a convenience store all night, 30 miles away. Kinda nervous.

Hope it's a simple fix for you. I had a weird experience once when I turned my key off when the needles were initializing and doing their dance. They stopped where they were and when I turned the key back on they moved around erratically settled and the bike started fine. But I'm pretty sure it's not the best thing to interrupt it while it's doing its dance, whatever its purpose is for.

I brought the bike home yesterday. U=haul only charged $24.0o. You can supply your own straps or get them from U-Haul. Check all the fuses, the battery and I am getting spark to all 4 plugs. I thought about spaying some starting fluid to confirm it is a fuel problem.

Starts with a shot of fluid and dies. If anybody knows why I am not getting fuel besides the fuel pump, I would love to hear it Thanks in advance.

If it was a carb'd bike it would be easy.
