Had trouble starting this morning 6 Years, 3 Months ago
Washed the bike Sunday afternoon. Started up fine, rode into garage. Get up Monday to go to work, put in N, hit the start button, nothing. Play with it a bit, tap the starter with a hammer, nothing. Checked voltage at battery, almost 13. Checked voltage at starter wire while hitting start button, 0. I eventually got it started but I dont know what I did. I kept playing with it and the starter clicked a little then it jumped over and the bike started. It did it to me again but with much less trouble. I dont think I have a starter issue, I believe its wiring or a switch. Any ideas?

Txwelder,
My 07 did that to me earlier this year at work. Turned out to be dirty contacts in the handlebar switch. I took it apart, pretty straight forward, and cleaned the 2 graphite contacts that make the connection and no trouble since.

Just my 2 cents

I had the tools in my hand to remove the brake lever and start pulling the start switch box. I decided to try one more time, and it started. Ill get in there this weekend and get her all cleaned up.

My starter button don't like baths. When I wash my bike, I put a plastic bag over my right handle to keep moisture out of the switch. If I don't I then have to push the button several times to get the moisture or corrosion off the contacts in the starter button. After a few weeks it drys or cleans itself but now I put a plastic bag over the right handle.
