A crankcase breather? What be a crankcase breather?

Does this mod require re-jetting, too?

Hey Frank. The back of the stock filter housing has a connect for a hose that routes to the crankcase ventilation. (which runs from there up to the head, though....I think) Anyway, with home grown filter mods there's no place to attach this tube, and the end of it should be filtered in some way to keep dirt out of the engine. That's the breather, and no, it doesn't affect mixture.

rstodd -

Did you add supports to the setup, or is the carb and manifold holding everything up?

I see... So, what do you fit onto that hose to keep the dust out of the motor, then?

From our very own Tech Articles: Breather install

You can find little filters at Pep Boys or where ever. I have one that I'm going to install. Right now I'm, um , well I have a small piece of cloth zip tied over the end of it ....

Frank--

A lot of people (me included) run no filter at all, just a long tube. I used gas line and ran it out the bottom of the bike under the seat, right along side the gas tank vent. Considering the positive pressure is pushing things OUT of the tube, and even if it did reverse pressure and suck things in, it would have to be a helluva vacuum pull and even then have a long way to travel back to the crankcase, so I'm not worried about it.

I'm not using a filter. It's a blower outer hose and I don't want a clogged filter to plug things up. Since it has oil and stuff in it I'm not worried about something setting up housekeeping in the hose. What you need to be sure of is that you don't pinch or kink the hose. If it kinks and the pressure can't can't get out you can have problems. My .00002 cents anywho.

Does the jetting and everything have to be changed, if I do this mod?
