I wonder why so many of us older guys go for Road 6 Years, 2 Months ago

Since I decided to get another bike after 20+ years out or the hobby and decided to go for a Road Star I can't help notice the number of guys, like myself, who get back into it and get on a Road Star.
The last bike I rode/owned was a '72 Bonnie with a big bore kit and full Cafe treatment. Actually, the last bike I owned was a Norton Combat Commando project that I sold to gain garage space for a Boy Scout project we were working on.
Needles to say, the 'Star feels pretty different.
But I swapped the forward controls out for the stock boards last night and took a nice little ride thru some WV hills today. I think Ive made a good choice.

It takes 43 muscles to frown, 17 to smile and three to pull the trigger.
I am lazy and I am tired of smiling at you...

Perhaps because with age, comes wisdom. And as we get older, those of us who are more secure with ourselves, are less concerned about going with the crowd... ...I'm just saying.
Also, based on your previous rides, it sounds like you just have some great taste.

I think it boils down to that as we get older, we aren't as much "image" consious. I call mine PMH (poor mans harley). Had 3 harleys before the RS because it was the cool thing to have. It took me a while to adjust because it wasn't a harley, but now I love the handling of the RS and my wife feels better as a passenger. Lets face it, a lot of us, me included, try to dress it up like a harley and most cases most people can't tell the diff. Thats why the PMH. Big problem though. Got all these harley clothes. What do I do with em?
Hey Doc, where did you get your fender tips? Been looking all over to find some like that.

Got to agree with the wisdom and value thing vs. following the crowd and spending too much. Roadstars are a great value, tons of torque, bullet proof motors, buttload of upgrades and after market stuff available.....should I go on?
Don't get me wrong, 4 of my best riding buddies (who between them all I spend 90% of my riding time with), each have something other than a roadstar. My point is, none of us are defined by what we ride. Each of us are in it for the shear pleasure of being in the wind. To each his own.
My other personal reason for choosing a roadstar, my oldest daughter when she was in high school always said that when I turn 50 she wants to buy me a motorcycle. When she was 22 I turned 50. She did, and that's what she bought, and to me that's priceless.

I think Doc_V pretty much hit it on the head, when I bought the Roadie I didn't know whang about the bike, I just liked the look and feel of the bike and I had to have it.
The bike handles great either on the free way, at creeps speed or in the twisties.
I think I made a good choice.
