I'm sure jealous. Thanks for the pics. Maybe someday I'll make it to Mecca.

I had the same problem that you're having. Bike gets hot, turn off ignition, minute later gas is pouring from the carb. I found the solution to be the gas cap vent mod in the TECH ARTICLES. It appears that the Roadstar tank isn't as vented as you would think and when the fuel tank heats up from the hot, non running, engine sitting under it, the pressure builds in the tank until it actually overcomes the float and needle & seat system and forces fuel back through the carb. The vent mod lets the tank breath and stops the back pressure from building. In fact, when I kill my engine on a hot day I can hear my tank sucking air in through the (now vented) fuel cap.

Good luck and hope to bump into ya at Sturgis someday.

P.S.

Did you encounter any attitude in Sturgis for not having HD branded on your forhead?
Just curious.

Well, I went a few weeks prior to the rally. Not many folks there at all that time of the year....so no chances to encounter any attitude for not having an HD. One of my buddies I rode with up there has an 05 Electraglide. He was pretty impressed with the roadie's performance...I did however, try to stay as close as possible to him due to the fact that he has a radio with a nice speaker system.

LOVE that Spearfish Canyon ride. Too bad you skipped Crazy Horse, it's better than Rushmore, in my opinion. Luckily, it's only on the other side of the state for me, so I can head out there on the weekend if I feel like it, when there's noooooo traffic around.
+1 on shutting off the petcock on the fuel tank btw- it's seemed to work for me.

Forgot to mention that part...yes I also went to Crazy Horse. It was okay....honestly wasn't too impressed. When comparing with the pics from the 60s, the monument hasn't changed much at all.

I guess I was out there around the same time you were. I was workin though. Took the weekend and a rental car and showed the gf all the places you were. Planning to ride out from Buffalo with my brother next summer, too many roads out there that need to be explored.
