I have found German style DOT helmets, like this... http://www.jafrum.com/Motorcycle-Helmets/German-Helmets?gclid=COaQ0Jq5iawCFQPj7QodSyRpBQ

But have not seen any with the spikes, like this...
http://www.ghostriderleather.com/items/helmets~german/flatblacknovgermanspike-detail.htm

Does anyone know if they make a DOT with the Spike or if the spike precludes it from getting a DOT cert. Anyone know where I could buy a spike that could be glued onto a DOT helmet?

Thanks
RCS

I have two used flat black helmets like this you can have. Just PM your address. Wife refused to wear them when I bought them. They have just been sitting on a shelf in my garage for 3 or 4 years now. I dont know about the spike though. I have never seen one DOT with the spike.

I know for sure that they are illegal here in Ontario. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to assume they are where you live too.

drilling required
I'm sure a DOT helmet will no longer be safe to use when you drill a hole in it.

I read the DOT laws on helmets a few weeks ago and if my mind serves correct DOT helmets are not allowed to have anything mounted to them.

thanks, I'll try to find the laws later. I was wondering if that was the case. We see lots of Rocket riders around here with 'mohawks' and other things mounted to the helmets, but most are soft looking, so that might be it.

There is a guy that rides locally that has a spiked helmet, at a toy run year before last his wife was on the back and he had to do a quick stop, her head went forward and hit his helmet and gashed her cheek and just missed her eye, now he has spikes only on the front half instead of front to back.
