Re:Bike Rally -- Why Bother 6 Years, 7 Months ago
I leave this Thursday evening for a run with guys I've known for over 4 years. Some are 1%'ers, some non-club, some are Christian bikers, some ride chops, some bobbers, and some bikes so bad that'garage-built death machine' is all that describes them. Others like me ride 'couches', as our cruisers are affectionately known. Each year the run gets bigger (last year I cooked for 40 guys the first night, and 60 the next morning for breakfast). We have guys from Canada, the East coast, all over Ohio, and as far west as Missouri and Oklahoma show up. We celebrate the 'Easy Rider' lifestyle, and this year will hit 3 states in 3 days. Camping under the stars, cooking "hobo packs" over a fire (or on hot pipes if you're running late), drinking a lot of beer, a band one night, and raising a lot of (generally harmless) hell in the process. We also do several smaller more localized runs around Ohio each summer. I'm one of the grandpas of the group, although we have a good representation of all ages. That's about the only type of rally I do.... Max, you're right, there's a lot of this type of group riding and get-togethering goin' on at the grassroots level, especially in Ohio. We have a great time riding in a pack- it's a huge rush, blasting along at 75+ miles per hour like a huge snake. These young guys help keep me young....

As long as they're payin some custom indy shop guy lots of money to have their trailered bikes serviced and upgraded, I'll pat him on the back and admire his patches and pins, call him 'Killer' and even pretend to flirt with his rhinocerous wife while I buy him a beer.

The old style bike rallies are still there, they're just on a much smaller scale at your's or your friends garages. They happen every time you ride from garage to garage, workin on bikes, swaping parts and talkin girls, bike magazines, and guns .. just like we did when we were kids with bicycles, comic books and bb-guns.
That is after all what we are doing here right, just a continuation of what we've been doing since we put on zip-up pants and stood to pee.

See ya'll at the next rally in front of my garage !!

Ya hit the nail right on the head brother

Yeah, I have a trailer, but mostly it's used to haul away yard waste, let my friends borrow or to pick up something big at Costco. I bought it so that I could get the bike to the shop if it ever stopped running from something I couldn't fix. Trouble is, it just keeps on running!

I go to Thunder Beach in Panama City about once a year. I'm amazed at the number of folks pulling their bikes down to PCB. It's not even an 8 hour ride from Atlanta!

Hey, to each their own. I bought my Roadie to ride, and ride I do.

Most motorcycle rallies these days have turned into RV/golf cart rallies w/motorcycles on the side.

This is my idea of trailering!!! I have a king size bed, a stand up changing room, front canopy, generator, ice chest, cook stove, portapotty, chairs and anything I need to keep me going for up to 3 weeks on the road. The only bike I own that has ever seen a trailer was my 2000 which is now my wifes trike and I blew out a tire on the road, got drowned out in Raton N.M.& as of recent broke the swingarm and needed to trailer it home. But with nearly 70,000 miles on that bike I would say that's decent riding miles.

If you have seen my bike you know it's ridden. 16,000 miles in a year and she's a dirty girl. I know she needs a bath but that's hard to do here. No shade, and the water is as hard as a rock. Water spots that form here are damn near impossible to get rid of.
