Not really nor all the time. Horse collar is never studied on helmets that have no marks. Seen it first hand 24 years from Ems. Leave it at a choice, never is it about peoples safety. This is a money issue with the insurance companies! Just like diesel exhaust is worst than second hand smoke. That study is very suppressed, but the life facts are very proven and real!

Oh come on now, we have both have seen enough bike wreaks to know that helmets DO save lives.

Do they always save a life? No, of course not.

Do they sometimes cause injuries? Sure they can, and at times I'm sure they have.

Would the patient have fared better, with less injuries, had they not been wearing a helmet. Neither I nor you have the qualifications to answer that.

Now, if I were sliding down the road head first, targeting an immovable object with my head, would I want a helmet on my noggin? You betcha!!

With that said, I agree that the choice should be left to each individual adult. Or at the very least, to each State. But I would also like to add one thing. If you are a holder of a "Gold Card" as the hospitals call Medicare/Medicaid, you should be required to wear a helmet. This is just my personal opinion. If I get hurt, the insurance I pay for will hopefully take care of me. If I am paying for YOUR hospital bill, you had better be wearing your helmet, buddy!!

It's not so much whether or not you wear a helmet or think others should. It's about choice and freedom to develope your own opinions and choices. If you're going to preach that everyone MUST wear a helmet and you know what's best, you better live a perfect and safe life before another pushes theirs on you!

I can't deny the potential to minimizes is there. Greatest percent of research is blunt trauma to thoracic leads to death. Every study can produce a point and not all studies get credit. You know in travel I wear one. The question is what is to far. Maybe a roll cage is next!

this is one debate that will never end.. jbubbs,deadweight,.. i agree with you.. if it werent for the money the insurance has to pay out they would not give a s*** less about you cracking your head.. please.. same with the seatbelt nonsense.. people die from smoking and lives are ruined by drugs and booze but they cash in big time on that so lets tell the biker what color socks he has to wear because we care about his health.. bull****.. life is a risk every day.. when your time is up your ticket gets punched.. its gonna happen one way or the other...and i am not knocking folks who wear them... to each his own...

Yep, right on the money. I live in NY and I must admit that sometimes after dark I like to take a nice ride in the country without my helmit. It is quite different, and I enjoy it alot. One thing I do when I'm out without my helmit is I hang a D-ring and part of the strap off an old helmit on my helmit holder. That way I can tell a cop if I get pulled over that someone stol my helmit. I don't think it would work but it makes me feel good. As a last resort I can act like I forgot that I had an extra brain bucket in one of my sadle bags. LOL Even though I'll ride without my hard hat I do take it with me.
