I recently locked up my rear wheel to avoid a nasty accident (My Story), so I know how something like this can leave you shaken up. My incident ended well in two ways....it allowed me to refocus on the fundamentals of safe riding and after contacting county officials they installed additional signs at the scene of my incident to warn others they are approaching a blind intersection. Defensive driving is the name of the game. Remember to use SEE whenever you are out for a ride....Search, Evaluate and Execute. Glad you made it through this incident unscathed!

Thanks guys... I just needed to vent a little yesterday. I know those situations pop up and we have to be prepared to deal with them. The thing is... I thought I was prepared, which I obviously wasn't. It certainly opens your eyes. Yakman I'm glad to hear they put up some additional signage, it might just save someones life.

Also, the heel-toe does take some getting used to. I've done that my self

Glad you're OK. Agree that oldsters should be tested more frequently. Per capita/mile, they are the most dangerous group on the road today.

I ride the R* to work just about everyday there isn't a downpour. On the way home today a car pulls right out in front of me. She was coming off the interstate and never stopped to look at the bottom of the off-ramp. I've read some of the threads about locking up the back wheel recently hear and let me tell you, it happens before you know it and its easy to do. The rear tire slid around and the bike started oscillating pretty badly. Thank God I was able to keep the shiny side up... I'm still a little shaken. Be careful out there guys, it a dangerous world we ride in.

I wish I could count how many times this has happened to me...sad to say its been way too many... unfortunately I don't see it getting any better because more and more cagers don't care about anyone but them self's on the dam road. Glad your ok cwat. Be careful everyone!

I must say I am surprised.

85 year old almost killed me in 2009, and I was in my truck. So I guess thats why I am surprised.

I guess it depends on the person. I know a 97 year old man that drives very well but he was a school bus driver all his life. Don't know if that has anything to do with it ,but probably does.

Respects
Mark

That's only fatal accidents though. I'd like to see one that included all the fender benders. Teens just wreck at higher speeds...

Hey, AG, you're right. I was off a little for property damage on the per capita end.

It's a different story, though, when you look at fatalities per miles driven.

(Apologies to Curt, Jona, too.)
