People talk about the rodies has the best bang for the buck over the HD and the roadstar is all they can afford. Both are great bikes.I own a 2008 Road Star Silverado S cost was $16000 new. The HD Road King starts at $16599. So there is no real difference in price. I could have bought what ever HD I wanted. But I do Not because I like the ROADSTAR. Buy what u like and what fits u. Not just BRAND NAME.

Though the 2008/ 2 year leftover I got last year was under was $9,999 plus about $1000 in acccesories, I have never heard a 2 year leftover RK from HD ever touching the $10,000 mark and having any accessories included.

I loved the Harleys I've ridden, I loved the Yamahas I've ridden. When I was looking for my current bike (2006 R* Silverado) I looked at and considered several Harleys, several Honda VTX bikes and a few Yamahawgs. I bought the R* because I felt that I was getting more bike for my $ with the R*. I will not rule out a Harley in the future, but I do hope that I'll sit in the current saddle for many many years before I have to consider it.

Owned a 96 fatboy, 01 roadking, currently 06 roadstar....all were good. None were great until I made changes to them. My dad has ridden everything and now wants a Goldwing Trike(Honda.......I am being facetious). All were good....the next one will be my R* with more mods until it gets old and I try a new bike....any bike...if it is my ride then it is what I ride. There is a ton of blahblahblah...RIDE.

My truck will blow any HD, R*, Suzuki, etc out of the water. My truck is a Dodge. And there are plenty of Dodge haters.

If I see another post about my brand is better than yours I am leaving the Clinic.

Well, I s'pose I could ride whatever I wanted, but I've always been a value shopper. I found an '01 R* in '07, and it was only $4,600 on Craigslist. I liked it so much that last year I bought an '01 Silverado for just $4,000.

Now, I've modded the both of them quite a bit, but for less than 1 Harley, I've got 2 nice R*s... one for solo riding, and the other for two up riding with a windshield, passing lamps and bags. I have to decide which one everytime I step into the garage!

What a hoot to be be able to have so much enjoyment... for so little money!

I've never owned a Harley, so I don't know what I'm missing... if anything. But, I don't care!

And, the ease of maintenance, reliability, the readily applied Stage 1 type performance mods. I'm lovin' this. Don't think I'll ever sell. They were both made in Sept. of 2000, and are 11 years old, so now I really want to see just how many years I can ride them... hoepefully 'til they're real antiques!

Hmmm, guess I will be, too!

And another thing, it sure seems like a lot of people are always trying to figure out ways to make more and more Harley parts fit on our bikes. Doesn't that indicate a certain fondness for Harleys?

I think that has more to to with the simple quantity of aftermarket parts there are for Harleys vs the limited numbers for R*s.

My first H-D was a used, 1977 Sportster XLCH, a "kicker" for those of you that aren't up on your older Harley model letter designations. I bought that one in 1982. My next Harley was a new 1990 FLHTC.

Some folks never have problems with Harleys, some do. I'm definately in the "do" (did) crowd. Electrical troubles mostly on that FLH. That, a rusty front fender, and an oil leaking engine while the bike was still under warranty. Good grief did that bike shake and vibrate!

In my experience, ya' just can't beat the quality and reliability of Japanese motorcycles. Perhaps H-Ds are better bikes today, perhaps not. I recall when I bought my FLH, I was told repeatedly that this new Evo engine/bike was so much better than the Shovelhead engine/bike it replaced. Whatever, I sure couldn't tell it by my experience.

For anyone who rides a Harley today or is contemplating purchasing one, I sure as hell hope you have better luck with your bike than I did with the ones I owned.

I am glad that the blue books have kept the prices lower for us because we get an awesome machine for a great price. I picked up my 2006 R* Silverado Midnight this winter for $5000 with only 4422 miles on it. The feeling of ownership is the best.
This is the picture from the Craigslist add.
