What the heck, mate?! No oil! 7 Years ago
So...tinkering with the bike to see what I can break?

Have oil leaking out of my transfer case...check the oil, and there is none.

Oy Oy Oy!

This might get interesting...

Hey Stranger long time no see!!! Glad we didn't scare ya away. I'll let someone who is knowledgable about the transfer case answer ya...Good to see ya though.

BTW, when you check it you need to make sure that the bike is upright. Have your husband hold it staright up and then check the level. It should be up to the brim of the checking hole.

G'day Koolau, any idea or can you see or explain to us exactly where the oil was leaking or coming from?

Re:What the heck, mate?! No oil! 7 Years ago
uploading photos atm.... The leak I thought was/is from a top bolt at the top of the transfer case (not where you fill it, higher than that)..but this is a ton of oil to leak out, or so I think.

Looking up from underneath my bike, right near the rear tire.

The transfer case...

Pics turned up horrible here but are perfect on my facebook Too bad my phone wont upload em to picasa for me..lol

Hey K!

I know someone will chime in here, but as I recall, there isn't all that much oil in the transfer case. So, be careful when you fill it. Just enough to get to the bottom of the check hole as I recall.

What I'm really curious about is; where was it leaking from?

Ratl.

had my bike 6 or 8 months before i decided to check the trasfer oil and it only had about a teaspoon of oil in it. read up on what oil and how to fill it and its been fine no leaks and always full to check point makes me wonder about the previous owner altho he did tell me he was selling cause he had no time for it

When I bought her I made the dumb mistake of taking her to get a safety check/tune up done....she's been leaking oil since then, but figured it was just overfilled. Now UK thinking there is something else wrong.

Could the mechanic have tightened the outside bolts on the transfer case to much and break the seal?

Koolau, according to the service manual, there is only 0.35 Imp qt, 0.42 US qt in that transfer case. Reccomeneded oil SAE80API " GL-4" Hypoid gear oil.
