Good luck with the clean up Koolau and hopefully it's all been more annoying than any real damage done. Let's know how it goes

Oh I'll let you know Emu.
Good thing I love cleaning the bike, and it's going to be a job with the oil everywhere and the gas tank off (how does that much crud build up under there!?!).
Tomorrow should be warm enough that I will get to take her for a spin if the preliminary checks go smoothly, and we get her back together.
Still have some checking to do while she's apart, and googling to figure out what stuff is on her that I have no clue!

When you're finished cleaning your bike you might want to come over and clean mine they've been a bit neglected lately.
BTW... what you're doing is good, it pays to given them a good going over on a routine basis, you get to know your bike and you'll be able to fix things before they get worse and more expensive.

I'd gladly come see you! I loved aus when I was there in the navy. Talk about super friendly people, plus it didn't hurt when they found out I was Canadian...LOL

Great thread. I learned lots myself. I will be changing oil and gear oil in the very near future and this gives me some good info.
And, from one Canadian to another (no harassment intended):

If I've got this right: a combination of overfilled transfer case and cold weather (increase in oil viscosity) the case would be pressurised resulting in oil releasing through case breather.
yep. changing my transfer case oil seemed to stop tthe oil display at the top middle bolt too.
btw i think the rubber intake boot is not on right.
the boot's lip should be inside the housing. your's looks like it has bolt heads against rubber.
when you take the cover off to change/clean the filter, you should see the rubber boot's throat
and i even think it's clamped somehow.
i took mine off and seem to remember that i had to go under the rubber boot's lip to get at the hardware.
