Coast to Coast Cannonball Run 7 Years, 5 Months ago
I rode down to Maggie Valley, NC this weekend and had a great time. The first vintage motorcycle Cannonball Run arrived in Maggie Valley Sunday afternoon and left Monday morning headed for the Santa Monica, Ca. The run is for motorcycles made before 1916. There were 70 entries, 44 made the start. It was great seeing all of the old bikes putting around.

The website is www.motorcyclecannonball.com .

Yeah, that CannonBall run is stopping in Tupelo, MS tomorrow (between 11-2 PM at Ballard Park if any of you locals can come, I'll be there!) All bikes pre-1916, some only go 25 MPH. I guess the winner of this race won't be the fastest bike, only the one that breaks down the least!

It is today. My riding buddy, Raven (who works for FireGuard which is sponsering the Tupelo stop) dropped me off a couple of posters to hang in my store (Meineke) & it showed the date as today. I took off work to see it.

I went to Kitty Hawk last Friday for the opening ceremonies and green flag start, some really neat old bikes. We followed after them for a while, some didn't make it five miles before mechanical troubles forced them to do some road side repairs. I imagine they all require daily work during or after the days run. I don't think I could go cross country on one, they certainly earned my respect.

I saw them today at the park where they stopped for lunch/repairs. They really earned my respect today too after I saw how you have to start a motorcycle with no starter or kickstarter! Most of them had to pedal to get rolling & then pop the clutch or start it on the centerstand, get the wheel spinning, release the centerstand & hop on really quick while the bike is moving! The oldest bike there was a 1907 British JAP Flying Broom ridden by a very nice German girl. Her husband was racing also on a 1913 BSA.

I had to work today but I saw many bikes! I figured they were around to look at all the old bikes. Very nice day today for such an event.
