Hi Coot,no your not missing anything at all, those people are cement heads that will likely never learn untill its too late.

You keep right on staying on top of your tires & bike in general, watching out for the cagers, and not riding like a mainiac with shorts on etc and you should have have nothing to worry about./LOL!!!!

But i have to say the nice & loud Bad Boy horn i recently installed on my bike has come on very handy in deed,it gets used almost every time i am riding on the road with the nutty NYS drivers that would run you over without blinking an eye if you let them.

My Rear tire has never lost a LB, When I check it, it normally needs air let out! My MC tire was all over the map according to the weather.

And you can't kick a MC tire and tell if it's up or not. Only a Tire pressure gauge works.

The age of these riders, you would think they been there done that with tires, especially before or during a trip like that. And especially especially if/when they have a passenger.

You know without a doubt every tire has two holes in it even before you check em, one to get air in and one to put it on the rim, and they are likely to leak at both places undetected.

going by the oem sticker and with my fat ass (now 189 from 218!) i have around 135# passenger limit, so add the weight of the acutrements, ie seat bags (with 10Lbs inthem), backrest i probably hit the GVW with a 50# child on the bike.

I HAD just the back seat & sisibar with a ~ 210Lbder on the back a couple weeks ago (her birthday AND mine), and boy was my front end squirrely at 80MPH goiin down the highway.

i run ~37-38# in my tires AND i didnt add any to handle the extra baggage, so a firmer rear tire probably would have made a difference. and i run the dunlop cruisemax tires, end of this year i'll be due for a new set, my third in ~ 30k miles. i got just a couple hundred shy of hittin 40K miles on her. and she is ripe...

Gardener, when loaded you should have the MAX recommended PSI air pressure in your rear tire. The front is more flexible because you can never overload the front, it being impossible on our bikes. 761 Lbs is the weight rating on your tire. I actually weigh mine and I went with the AVON for the weight rating (Highest one I found) and then moved on to a Van Tire that I can never overload. So it's all about the frame and suspension now for me. BTW loaded 2 up for a trip I have about 840 Lbs on the rear tire.

I posted long ago links about tire air pressures, one manufacture set up a booth at a bike rally and a gigantic percentage of people who showed up at the event had under inflated rear tires especially when considering the weight they had, most had tire with weight ratings that could not hold the weight they had on them even at Max PSI.

It's the air in the tire that holds up the weight, it's the construction of the tire that allows it to hold the air without blowing.

For some reason people just don't consider GVWR'ings on tires. Link

That's a first, you could make big bucks if you could figure out how your tires are actually gaining air pressure over time.

You're supposed to measure the tire pressures before you ride, while the tire is 'cold'. Friction from the road will heat up the tire and the air inside of it, causing the air pressure to rise. That's normal.

You shouldn't release air from your tire if the pressure was correct when it was cold. If you are checking your tire pressure on the road and it's high, but it was correct before you started riding, that's OK. It's supposed to be higher. Leave it alone.

If it's low, obviously that's a different story. Something's wrong. Look for a pucture in your tire. Don't just put more air in it and keep riding.

Ratl.

Hi Coot,no disrespect intened,i am NY born so i live in NY too, have had so many people doing stupid stuff o the road.

Just the other day i had a guy looking right at me comming down a main road with nobody close behind me pull right the heck out in front of me and i had to get all over the brakes (but ot locking them up)and move off the road to avoid hitting rear of his truck as he was moving infront of me from side street onto main road .I was like WTF are doing ,theres no way he could have not seen me esp since i had the 2x brighter head & passing lamp bulbs that you cant miss even on a bright sunny day which is 1 of the reasons i got them. I was already close to him and wasnt speeding either, was only going approx 48-50mph in 45mph zone but he coild not wait for me to pass by in 3 seconds.

That guy got a ton of my Bad Boy Horn along with a nice litte gesture to back that up and he was looked like he was surprised he almost caused an accident when i saw him looking right at me when it was happening, and the sun wasnt in his face either.

But it scared the heck out of the wife and it seemes these days just about every time we are out on the bike i have to give at least 1 person a lot of horn and make some kind of quick manuver which is starting to make the wife feel uneasy about going from rides and she really likes riding esp in the country but these idiots are scaring her.

I see that a lot around here (Albany area).
I've got to the point where I just expect them to pull out weather they do or not.
This year both Rt. 7 going towards the Tomhannock and Rt. 40 going into Schaghticoke have had over 6 fatal accidents on them in a 3 month period. Don't ya know I ride both of them almost daily.
